My wants a high tech looking computer at the front desk for our receptionist to use. To him, that means a flat panel screen and black color. I know IBM has a black keyboard and mouse and a black flat panel monitor. Does anyone know of anyone else who deals in black peripherals?

My God....How precious, that's straight out of Dilbert.
Any other requirements besides looking cool?
Just as an FYI: I've broken down periphs and spray painted them with a good enamel paint and they still look good after a year of use. Mask off that crt though....tee hee http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The rule is that it has to look good even though it's not convenient for the receptionist working there. Most of her stuff is on the floor under her desk. I've considered black paint. One thing she can't live without is a little computer supplied by Fed Ex for her to make up fed ex labels. They are trying very hard to get rid of it because it doesn't fit the image. If we could paint it black that might do it. This does sound like Dilbert doesn't it. Well,my boss is an engineer like the guy who writes Dilbert.

Your local workshop can get a black case and keyboard at no extra charge. It is a good idea to paint it. After all, most of the cases are painted with spray paint. Brand names with black cases in the market:
Acer (it is the first I can remember);
Dell
Ibm has some models
I have seen some black Acer monitors. They look cool!

Available in black.
Don't care much for these cases. But hey! At least you know there out there. I prefer the rackmounts www.appro.com/products/enclosures.html (http://www.appro.com/products/enclosures.html)

Those keys are actually bunched up quite nicely. Just like the flowers of the creeping phlox.

Roy~ The use of whiteout assumes actual use of the equipment....I think that one of those cardboard display computers from OfficeMax would probably suffice in this case.

I know this is doesn't need to be said but somehow I feel the compelled to.
The guy needs to find a "high-tech" looking computer for the front desk receptionist in a company where image and first impressions are obviously important.
A multi-million dollar client walks into a nicely designed building and reception area because of the good reputation he/she has heard of this company and sees a painted cardboard/plastic box for a computer. Where, in the first place, he came to discuss ComputerAidedDesigns this company is known for?
Come on.
csdurst probably expected decent suggestions from us after viewing the replys at this site.

I basically share your view on image but we'll have to deal with this mindset for awhile yet.
I've actually painted steel rackmount enclosures to achieve the requested look. It had to be black. But it had to be a certain type of black. Of course I used a spraygun and compressor.
The all polished steel look was kinda neat.
G-Man has a good solution.
What everyonre will see is the monitor and perhaps the keyboard and mouse. The computer can be anything. Dell offers the Silicon Graphics display monitor with their systems upon request.

For even greater impact, a 42" Gas Plasma HDTV flat screen behind the receptionist might look good. Also, the JVC Data projector makes a nice 12' image.

Actually, I agree with MadMax. Caring ony about how the computer looks is heart-rending to us true computer users. I shouldn't add this, but to make it even worse, this black keyboard for the receptionist is going to have to be very small because her desk isn't big enough for a full size keyboard. Crazy. We're architects and we designed this desk. But there is no room for a keyboard. But as long as it's black the clients will be impressed. I don't think my boss is computer savvy enough to be online reading this. I hope.

Thanks, Bleeding Edge! I love the pictures: they are so cool! Wow!
Can't remember the brand, but saw a small black cordless keyboard at CompUSA recently. Looked like novelty to me, but might fill your needs nicely. Check their website.
Just took my own advise & couldn't find the product, but they have several pages of keyboards listed, closest I could find was "H45 Technology Elec. Wireless keyboard" which is NOT what I saw in store, but is shown as very compact unit with no numeric keypad.

Bleeding Edge~ I mean no offense to the poster. I do, however, take exception to the whole mindset that would provoke that type of query. Why does image (looking "High Tech") mean so much to these management types? If someone is looking for a quality product, I would think that the product would speak for itself. If some company rep. is so wrapped up in appearances over substance, I don't want their business anyway. BTW- That paint suggestion wasn't bogus, Dupont makes great enamel that looks factory fresh if you apply it correctly.

No, I am not joking. I found these cases very postmodern (a very high tech word in Atlanta but does not mean anything anywhere else). I guess they will look great in a postmodern office (great impression for architects). They remind me the Italian design chairs. I am sorry but I am a big fan of art.
