I have a Cyrix Media GXm Motherboard with a Cyrix 233 processor. I read in the motherboard manual that my Cyrix MMX processor is compatible with the Pentium Processor. Since my Cyrix is also a socket-7 based processor, I was wondering if I can replace my Cyrix processor with a Pentium processor with the same speed.

If I remember right the Cyrix Media GX comes as a motherboard/cpu combo. I think the chip is proprietary and will only work with that motherboard. Unfortunately this means to upgrade you will end up replacing the mb.

Hi!
The Media GX family are NOT socket 7. This is a proprietary design, containing the graphics engine and the chipset north bridge in the processor itself. A Media GX does not have the CPU bus outside its chip case, and will not work elsewhere except on its own boards. Standard processors will in turn also not work on a MediaGX board, since they need a complete chipset on the board.
