My motherboard's manual (for the PII-2200) says that it requires an APIC module to run dual processors. But the Amptron site for the BIOS upgrade of this board says that it "supports dual processor configuration". Does this mean that with this new BIOS the APIC module is no longer necessary?
Also, my motherboard is actually a PII-2200 clone, an Elpina M-720 by Ability. Is it safe to flash my BIOS with Amptron's upgrade?

Hi!
The APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) is absolutely
mandatory for multiprocessor systems. You need it, no matter what BIOS.
The PII-2200 isn't made by Amptron, neither Elpina, nor Ability.
It's yet another PC-Chips product, also sold under the PC-Chips brand name as M720.
The latest BIOS update is at
ftp.pcchips.com.tw/BIOS/2200.
ftp.pcchips.com.tw/BIOS/M720.
The only difference is that the further says "PM-2200" on
the POST screen, while the latter remains anonymous.

Thanks, that wraps up that question.
End of thread, unless someone else can add to that.
