They have to have the server software, and you have to unwittingly have the client software on your computer....not all trojans are detected by anti-virus programs...and the newer trojans are configurable to make them harder to find..hope this helps.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by smokin1 (edited 04-02-2000).] Morpheus1964 04-02-2000, 06:02 PM Much like the infamous Trojan Horse. A good way to check for them is to visit http://www.secure-me.net and ask for a basic system scan. They leave a high numbered port open. For example, the infamous NetBus leaves port 12,345 open. With a good firewall and some precaution, you can make a trojan seem a little more like the giant rabbit in "Monty Python & the Search for the Holy Grail". http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif socalgal 04-02-2000, 07:31 PM Not much to add to the above... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Viruses replicate, trojans don't. There's another "type" also, worm... which is a type of virus or replicative code that situates itself in a computer system wherein it releases it's malicious code. Usually wrapped inside a Trojan. (no pun intended...) socalgal 04-03-2000, 12:45 AM Well, it's not often I start a thread on a trial version download.. http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/ Some configuration and loads of features with a super text-based GUI. Good Help menu. Lots of plug-ins, works w/W98/NT, remote access setup, Netstat, customizable ports, has speech synthesis technology using the MS Text-To-Speech engine (test first before using on TDS), etc., etc. I've only been running it a couple of days.. but it's pretty awesome from what I can see. Thanks, ytay for your post recommending this one! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/005911.html SysOpt.com
