Ok so maybe this is a little off topic, but I was wondering if there were any colleges around that offer a internet course on computer networking. This is a field I really want to get into.

I can't go to classes at the local college due to the fact I need to work my **** off in order to make enough money to support my Fiance and I, so I figured I would try and study through the computer. after all that seems like the only thing I do any more in my free time. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the responses!
John

i have been thinking very hard for the past 5 or so minutes, but can't seem to remember the site i had previously seen...

the only place i can think of (cuz i was just there about 2 hours ago) is FreeSkills.com (http://www.freeskills.com/). I looked at their course list before and don't remember anything regarding networking, but it's worth a look at atleast.

if i do think of that site, then i'll be sure to post. i am just getting so frustrated cuz i can't think of what it is... oh well... maybe if i think of other things, it'll pop up (cuz that is about the only time you can think of something; when it's completely off-topic or just plainly too late).

well, whatever... but i do definitely remember that the site (that i can't remember) offered networking, cuz i almost enrolled. but i'll be sure to post...

Noresull: My main most computer bud at work is now taking a computer networking course. Don't know if it's local or online. Will find out tomorrow and let you know. he seemed really impressed with it so it might be just what you're looking for. Get back later

Some state colleges have classes you can do over the internet or by sending you assignments in the mail. You can get certifications at brainbench.com . Hope that helps.

Hey again noresull,

I guess it just depends on what sort of a degree or certification you want, how fast you want to get it done, what sort of experience you already have, whether you want to transfer the credit to another school, and how much time and money you're willing to put into it. The only one I really know anything about is The Western Governors University http://www.wgu.edu/wgu/index.html

I know that they're interested in helping you to fastrack your degree or certification, give credit for real world experience, custom design your schedule, and their credit can be transferred to a lot of colleges and universities throughout the country. Of course, you'd want to check with any school you're thinking of transfering it to first.

You can find online or distance learning in computer related subjects from just about any large college or university. Most of them require that, if you're going for a degree, you take your exams at a local college or university with a proctor present and you have to arrange that yourself with the local school. Also, some of them require that you have a high speed connection to support their presentations, so check that with them.

Good luck!

Hey Pickle,

Did you talk to your buddy at work? Did he say anything about online schools?

Thanks
John
