I got this in my mailbox yesterday. More on Aureate from Steve Gibson. He has finished his program to detect Aureate keys and assist in their removal.

Steve Gibson was saying that he would soon be done with it, but I haven't been to his site in a few days. Thanks for letting us know.

Great! I downloaded it and stuck it on my Windows drive (using Linux at the moment). Now as long as "OptOut" doesn't turn out to be spyware we'll be fine... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

What I'm not sure of is... If I let it remove all that stuff, what programs might I lose???

Is it just me, or did you get the feeling that he was under a bit of "Diress". The emphatic denials repeated lead me to think that they "Au-Radiate" may have been apply-de-old pressure trick..

Thanks Smokin1,
I got that too, sure glad Steve Gibson is on "our" side!
Of course that aureate c*ap was on my machine too ... but not any more (ha ha [mad scientist type laughter]).
I agree RC72, he sure did lay out the disclaimers, but he's probably just coverin' the ol' tail.

Despite having used CuteFTP in the past, OptOut found my system 100% clean. Pleasing news. Thanks for the link, I was unaware of the capabilities of this Aureate stuff...

Good post!
It deleted 27 files and a handful of registry keys.
Things like this are a fundamental invasion of our privacy and their use is often 'justified' by these people on the back of market research or trapping criminals, or whatever. skcolloB! If someone wants to do market research on me, they ASK and I choose whether or not to participate and if the police want to burgle my house, they have to have a warrant.
Keep up the good work!
Krusty.

Strangely enough, Netscape 4.5 stopped working shortly after I ran OptOut (which found 27 spyware registry entries and 13 spyware programs). Don't know if there's a connection. I start Netscape, the Netscape splash appears, and disappears almost instantly. I finally removed the entire program and imported my bookmarks to Explorer.
Also Download Wonder is caput... anybody know a freeware/shareware program that can resume downloads, without the spyware installation?
On the other hand, the speed of my Internet transactions has noticeably increased since I removed the parasites from my system!

well it found something like 167 files, but I don't want to take any chances, I don't want to f*$# up Music Match Jukebox...I have it fully configured, I just got my computer as stable as can be and I don't want to mess a program I normally use. I have ZoneAlarm so I think that's enough protection for now...if I can delete some of those files w/o messing up my progs that be great,
keep m,e posted!
