Hello all,

I have my M598 (version 9.0) up and running just fine without any problems other than the bus speed issue. I have the latest BIOS (990314s) from PCChips, and CPU PnP in the BIOS gives the choices of 95 & 100, but even when set to 100, it is clocked at 95. This is shown by both Win NT's Diagnostics (237 MHz a.k.a - 100 * 2.5) and Unreal's opening window.

CPU is a MII-333. (I know, inferior to a pocket calc.) Other than this fact, the board is great (stable, video is fine, sound is ok) and was only 67.50 + ship.

Once again, no complaints (all I wanted was stable - this is a study machine) but if there is some "easy" fix for this I'd be willing to try.

Thanks,
AMD, Celeron, CyrixEric

I have two 598 running w/Amd 400's .Bus speeds tests at 100. This was an issue with the M590 boards. I didn't know anyone was having trouble w/bus speeds on the 598's. (:

Hi!

First of all, you're supposed to run your Cyrix MII-333 at 83x3, not 100x2.5 ...

I have an M598 v7.0a here, and while it does all available bus speeds correctly with a K6-2 fitted, it refuses to do so with other brand processors. Like when I tried to run an Intel P55C MMX processor, bus speed would never go to 83 or higher regardless of what I set in BIOS Setup.

There seems to be some kind of processor dependent safety measure in the SoftCPU settings, maybe you get bitten by these. To make sure, I'm afraid you'll have to borrow a K6-2.

Regards, Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply. I realize that the 333 is an 83 x 3 CPU, but in the BIOS that was on the board, it gave the option of 83 x 3 or 100 x 2.5 for the PR-333. I've got a K6-2/300 in my wife's machine, but it's a 66AFR. I may try it when I get bored. I am very impressed with the m598 for an all in one solution.

Thanks for the input.
