My school is looking to upgrade approx. 70, 486 PCs in mini-towers to the cheapest pentium motherboard systems available (100? 133? 166?) for less than $200. Can this be done?

Can this be done? MR COMPUTER 05-07-1999, 05:07 PM Can do! I have done a bunch of these low dollar upgrades for schools. You start with an Amptron Pm9100 or PC Chips M571 mainboard.(same board)Add a 200 Winchip w/fan,and 32meg sdram strip of memory. This gives you selectable 1-4 meg video and onboard sound. This leaves you money left over for a good cdrom.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Dusty 05-07-1999, 06:37 PM This sounds encouraging, thanks! I'm off to the PC chips site. Stevo 05-08-1999, 01:55 AM a real cheep system 586PCI txpro2 m/b with onboard video + sound cyrix 300mmx 32mb dimm This will cost approx $330NZ which is about $165US (I Think) Dusty 05-08-1999, 12:02 PM I'm interested. Is there one place I can go to purchase these? I hope I'm not breaking any SysOpt rules. MR COMPUTER 05-08-1999, 02:45 PM First,You need to decide how many computers to upgrade at once. The larger quantities you buy,the lower the price.Plus, most vendors will give a price break for schools.Need more details on how to/vendors?
