I'm spec'ing out systems for use in multimedia interactive kiosks, which need to have an average field life of around 3 years before refurbishing or replacement. I'm trying to find a good motherboard design that has the option of attaching a long-life CMOS battery backup pack or a self-recharging battery built into the motherboard itself. These used to be widely available, but are hard (impossible?) tofind anymore. The idea here is to avoid having to upgrade the button battery that most motherboards come with, as this would require either a field upgrade (undesirable) or the computer being shipped to a central service depot just to replace the battery (even more undesirable). Does anyone know if there are any good motherboards currently available that offer this type of extended battery life option? Also desirable would be one that is based on the Super-7 socket cpu design. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

some of the latest systems dont have a cmos battery, however, replacing the battery is no sweat, and resetting the cmos/bios/ should take no more than ten minutes.I have system with a button battery thats been ok for nearly three years anyway. I know it doesn't answer your question but it might help

Aopen has a motherboard(s?) that features a "battery-less" design. www.aopen.com.tw/products/mb/ax6bc.htm (http://www.aopen.com.tw/products/mb/ax6bc.htm)

You'll find good links to board manufactures here:
