Is it ok to use a magnetic screwdriver to screw in a motherboard? I did and now people start telling me it'll screw it up. Ive always used a magnetic screwdriver for everything including harddrives and nothing has ever gone wrong. Just need answers.

I also heard that the low magnetic properties of a screwdriver is nothing to worry about only around stuff that is stored magnetically. Someone confirm one of these please.

Having magnetized metal in the computer isn't good. In your case, I don't think things will actually go haywire but try to avoid it using them from now on.

its amazing the damage that can be done with a magnetized screwdriver, particulrly when used in conjunction with a hammer etc. How many people check if theirs is magnetic, which it almost certainly will be to some extent. if i need to retrieve something or have an awkward position I stick a bit of 'bluetack' on the end of the driver. mind you I'm told you should also wear an earth strap, I've never seen anyone in a store wearing one when they show me the product, have you? or when a technician comes into an office to fix a hardwear problem.
sorry about this post I'll have to take more water with it

The problem, Geronimo, is that when you've got the guts of the system hanging all over your desk as you are working on the thing, you are frequently not looking where you are setting your screwdriver. Before you know it you've laid it on top of a diagnostics diskette or boot disk, or ERD or some such.

You probably want to eliminate that particular item from your tool kit.
