I have received information from a good source, that Nabob and Bell Canada will be doing a combined test tomorrow morning at precisely 8:00AM PST.

I do not know if this test will be carried out in the USA or not. As far as I have learned, it will be in Canada only.

The 2 companies will be testing the telephone lines throughout Canada, using a scent sender program (a new break-through in technology ), that will enable people to smell different scents through the phone lines. (coffee scent is the first)

The telephone lines are supposed to carry the scent of coffee the same way as it transmits data through the phone lines. (they call it scent data packets or something like that)

The 2 companies have asked that they do not want everybody to pick up their phones at the same time (8:00 AM PST) and try to phone their friends, relatives etc. to see if it is working. If everybody does this, it will create a major overload on the lines. I can see that this would be a major problem, something like Xmas season calls. So please do not do this. Just time your call accordinaly.

I think that if everybody would just time their phone calls accordingly, like wait for a few minutes after 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 etc. then it wouldn't jam up the lines. They said this test would last for approxmately 4 hours because of the time zones. So this would mean that everybody would have lots of time to try this new break-through technology.

Now here's the advertising part (there's always a catch)...those of you Canadians that do not use Nabob as your main coffee source, they ask that you refrain from this test until the true Nabob users have had a chance to see if their phone lines and this test is working properly or not.

They also ask the testers, that if they do not smell the aroma through their phone lines...PLEASE, DO NOT PHONE THE OPERATOR, as they will not be able to help you with this problem. They ask that you contact your local radio station, as they will be taking a survey of the callers, to see if this test is working or not.

This is such a major breakthrough with telephone lines!!! I'm just wondering how far this technology is going to go in the next few years. What does the future hold for all of us??

This is truly a great breakthrough for man/women kind and it is so exciting!!!

A FIRST for Canada...EH !!!

That's just great...now those dang crank callers can pass gas (can we say **** here?) into the phone!!! :/ PEEEEEEEEUUUU!!!
Heehee, I wonder if they'll make a "scent block" option...sorta like the private name/number thing.

And I wonder how many people will actually pick up the phone and smell http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Haha...

Yeah, I've read about it. Pretty cool stuff. Just imagine, choosing parfumes over the phone... Prolly the technology isn't so sensitire rihgt now, but in the future... Too bad I'm not in Canada, I'd definitely try it.

Ha, did you forget to type the punchline or something?

What was the point??? I'm guessing an e-mail fwd right? Bell Canada only services Quebec and Ontario btw.

Forget the e-commerce dot coms, I'm going to set up an "aromatherapy" 900 dial in.

Makes scents to me!!!

Does this mean that my modem is going to have caffeine withdrawal now?
I hope not as it's bad enough with just me.

Good point Buddman... maybe this means that modem prices are going to go up too, for a Smell-Detecting Modem, just like Caller-ID modems. Can you still receive scents when your on the internet? What about answering machines? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif So many things that Bell hasn't thought of...

They seem to have fired up this system in the States already. It works over modems too!! As I was reading this post with intrest, the smell of BS began emenating from my monitor.

Also, just a reminder for everyone to set their clocks ahead 2 hours. Yes, I said 2 hours. Since this was a special situation leap year (only centurial years divideable by 4 are leap years), an addional hour has to be dropped to compensate. Remember, if you are late for work tomorrow, don't say you didn't know.

duh! ya think its an april fools joke, guys?

This kind of technology would be an ultra slow technology to integrate into society.

Simply for all the upgrading that would have to done to telephone networks.. Not to mention the devices that would have to be installed on typical phones.

The signals would be scent (hehe) over electronically to an individual phone to let out a specific scent..

Now come on - for you people who believed this - the idea of this is not even feasable at this point!

Of course, it was an April Fools Joke...
It kind of smelled strange when it was scent to me too!
