Art Bell has announced his retirement due to "personal problems". I think April 26 will be his last show. Apparently this is NOT an April fool's joke - although its interesting that Art picked April 1 to make the announcement. Listeners may recall the problems he had a while back with his son and the accusations of child abuse he personally faced from other late night radio hosts.

I know absolutely nothing about Art's personal life but I found his "on the air" persona to be entertaining. He seemed to truly enjoy what he was doing and he provided some off beat entertainment to a great audience of early risers, night workers and insomniacs.

I believe that most of the "far out" people Art dealt with were pretty harmless - and maybe some of them were actually right in what they claimed. Unfortunately Art also encountered a number of real lunatics and horse's rear ends and those people have proved to be his undoing.

On the Internet every crazy has a voice and when you own a phone you're at the mercy of any idiot who can dial.

I wish Art well and hope that he can get his life back together again.

Good grief - Charles Schultz, Tom Landry - now Art!

I hope that's not an April fool's joke cause that's a real bummer. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I almost listen to him every night.

He doesn't seem to be putting as much time and effort into his show as he used to.

Wish him well,
Plucky
