what does it mean at startup when it says type in the command interperter exsample windows\command.com that what it gives for ex.when im at startup ive tried to type in this and it doesnt work it just stays on the screen

Perhaps that path doesn't exist?
What are you trying to do exactly?
If this screen is coming up on a previously working computer, then I suggest you take it to a computer shop to get it fixed. That would be the easiest thing to do.

It means your OS is screwed up. Likely a virus or a corrupted hard drive. I would pursue the virus thing first.
Wait a second. Are you getting into Windows? If so it could mean a program is trying to load and is not there. Did you delete something recently. You probably have a shortcut in your startup folder or your autoexec.bat that is dead.

It needs a valid copy of command.com. Obviously your current copy is damaged or inaccessible. Try this. Boot from a bootable floppy for your version of Windows. Type c: and see if you can access hard drive. If you can, then type a: and then sys c: then reboot. Also, at a:> prompt, type fdisk and verify that the windows partition is recognized and marked active. If that doesn't work, post more info about the problem.
