Since loading SE on system my mouse pointer starts shanging from an arrow to busy sand clock about every 5 seconds, it's does not do this all the time, but once it starts the only way I can stablise the thing is reboot the system, has any one else come across this problem, and if so how did you cure it, and still keep 98SE.?

Do like the pickel did....uninstall SE and IE5 and be happy!!!!!! WW, since getting rid of these two programs my computer has never been so dependable and crash free( well not completely) but alot more stable and reliable. Was this SE or upgrade from Win 98?
Mine suffered almost irreparable damage from the upgrade http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif. But seems fine now. IE4 is ok but Netscape has it beat hands down. Just my buck and a quarter!!!! Hope all's OK down there , take care http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My Dad is having a similar prob. on his Dell L500c syst. with Win98SE and IE 5. While using some prog.s the pointer keeps blinking/disappearing. My dad thinks it's a Hardware prob, but I think it's software.

Thanks for any input.

Happened to me too, it was the Vid driver.
my cursor used to blink, change back and forth and get stuck in the "busy" cursor.

to the Pickle, well it was the SE el cheepo that MS sell out to OEM's and Direct Access members. so yeh it's the upgrade, but I must admit one thing, only had one crash in IE5 and then when I closed the window ( yeh I was able to close it down without major hassle) I carried on without problems in fact touch wood since putting SE on I have not had a blue screen off death, and not one crash that forced me to use reset, under the previous version of windows I ended up replacing the reset button due to it wearing out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
the only agro I get is this pointer going funny, and this I cannot tie down to any action, or event also it is not consistant as to when it happens, sometimes go days with out it happening then another day it will happen twice in an hour, it does'nt seem to interfer with the way the system works, ( only common factor I have to be on the net for it to happen)

As for choices I have to use MS OS when logging onto the OEM site at MS, the way they get info from your system I don't think it would go down to well logging on with Linux.

Since installing 98SE in october I have had but one BSoD, and contrary to its error messages, Microsoft admits that you don't ACTUALLY have to restart for most settings to take effect with SE, as well as the fact that it recovers from page faults, etc. pretty well compared to 98 and below.

My only suggestion would be to check for driver updates on stuff...are you using an intellimouse by any chance? apparently the 3.0 drivers packaged with them have some bugs and 3.1a is released and available for download from download.microsoft.com

that's my cent &1/2...

Are you using any browsing enhancement software, if so then this is the probable culprit. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
