I took out those 2 black pins in the side.. but its still stuck on the gpu. Sweeper 09-03-2001, 02:02 PM I took a look at mine, it looks as though it's held down with epoxy. I'm not going to try to rip it off. Cost to much. If you find out how safely, let me know. Sweeper Brian48 09-04-2001, 01:58 PM The Visiontek is NOT glued on. Once you've (completely) removed the pins, you should be able to gently twist off the heatsink. Obviously the thermal pad had melted onto the chip and adhered itself. It should still be soft enough to work off without prying. The "pry" method is only safe provided the glue is the rigid, brittle type. Fingers 09-04-2001, 03:48 PM While not specific to the Visiontek, here are some general Removal Instructions for factory heatsink/fan (http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/Jarhead/tennmax.htm) thekingofpain 09-04-2001, 04:25 PM OUCHIE---dont wanna mess that one up... TechDude 09-04-2001, 04:27 PM Is it safe to twist it around untill it comes off? It doesnt look like it has very much space because of those little green things to the top and right of it. And i guess im also paranoid about doingi t because i dont want the chip its attacched to to come off.. and costing me another $300. Wizzard~Of~Ozz 09-04-2001, 04:31 PM Try re-attaching the pins and run it for a bit, it should warm up the pad they had on it, then pop the pins and try removing it while the heatsink is still warm. if it's not epoxied, and it's just a thermal pad, this will soften it up a bit, if it's epoxied, someone else posted a link to a site on how to remove it. Sweeper 09-04-2001, 04:32 PM That's why I never pulled it off. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Wizzard~Of~Ozz 09-04-2001, 04:51 PM I wouldn't mess with a 300$ brandnew card until the warranty was up, if it fried before that oh well, send it in. I'm just saying when I took my duron's old heatsink off (it had that nutty putty on it) it made a sucking sound, so chances are warming it up then giving a light twist should let it off, if he can't twist at all with very mild pressure, Then it's epoxied, That I wouldn't touch at all, but I don't know why they'ld glue and pin it on. Ah well, I wouldn't recommend taking it off unless it's out of warranty and overheating. SysOpt.com
