I'm getting ready to format my hard drive so I figured it's a good time to change my video card back to the voodoo 5500 which is a pci card. I'm currently using an agp rage fury pro. Now my question is when I tried this b4 why does the computer not recognize the voodoo & I get no video?? I know it works as I've had it another computer with no problems. I've recently purchased a larger psu thinking maybe it didn't have enough power. Is there a certain process to make a pci card work on a fresh format? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You probably need to enter BIOS and enable PCI Snoop and disable AGP. But, I am not sure if that is your problem or not. Don't strangle me if I was wrong.
You should switch in BIOS "Boot from PCI card" option if you wanna use your V5.
If you don't have this option, then be sure you remove the ATI card and all it's drivers.

Well I tried it again & no luck w/ the voodoo. I erased all the drivers from the rage fury card & removed it but when I went to boot up w/ the voodoo I still got no video. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif This card is driving me nuts. BTW yes I enabled the pci in the bios.

I've had problems with the Voodoo line as well back in the days when I still had my old 14" Daytek monitor, and had tried out the Voodoo3 2000/3000.
The only res I could get was 640*480@16colour. Anything beyond that I got a screen freeze, I don't even see the picture. On our 19", during the install process, the Voodoo will automatically jack the screen frequency all the way up to 199Hz (yikes!). Tried several different cards, same thing.
Never went back to a Voodoo ever since. Still on a Riva128 to this day http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well the Riva128 was always better than the V2's in direct3d. I think the original V2's without SLI had a max res of only 640X480. With SLI they could only reach 1024X768.
Try the card in another machine and verify it hasn't been damage at some point while it wasn't installed.
Can't figure out your prob. Plz post more system specs.
BTW, V2 does 800x600, and 1024x778 in SLI mode, you're right on this one, Hellmund http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Have you tried your card in another system?
Did you clear the CMOS?
Are you sure the card is seated properly?

Yes tried card in another system & it does appear to be seated correctly. I did not reset the cmos though. I wouldn't think that would matter. Please enlighten me as to what that would change.

Actaully it depended on the cards config ND http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I'm sure the ol' 4mb V2's had 640X480 as max, only the later 8mb and 12mb could do 800X600 I think.....Not %100 sure though.
Voodoo2 was never available with 4MB configuration, you must be talking about first Voodoo/Voodoo Rush.
Voodoo2 with 8/12MB do 800x600.

Yep I must've confused the 2.....can't find any 4mb V2's, but if they did they would only be capable of 640X480 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif It'd have 2mb Z-buffer and 2mb for the texture data.

Mike: Do you have video on the POST, thus enabling you to access the BIOS?? If so, have you tried going to "safe"(F8)??
The method I prefer when changing vid cards is to change to the "standard PCI display adapter" in device manager BEFORE removing the present card. Install new card and see if it's recognized on the reboot. Then install the specific drivers for the card. Hope this helps.

No I do not have video on post which is the whole problem. I did when I slapped this card in a gateway sytem but not in this one. It has never worked in this A7V133 or my MSI K7T Pro 2A boards. That what bugs me as it worked in the crappy gateway w/ the 145 watt power supply. argh. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I be baffled...Just for the hell of it, have you tried clearing the CMOS? The more I think about yer problem, the more convinced I become to hang onto my trusty Voodoo3. Good Luck

The only other thing that comes to mind is to remove all cards except the voodoo and see if it will work...and then try it in different pci slots...and then go back to the card that works...Regards, Raydeo
