I installed GetRight, a download manager, and since doing so notice that both lights on my ISDN terminal adapter stay lit up even after I disconnect from the Internet. I have a dial tone on both channels, so I presume I >really am< disconnected, but I still am paranoid.

What is the best way for me to know whether in fact any connection is made from the Net to my computer?

I have a icon in my tray (bottom of the screen) that looks like 2 computers. If I double-click on it,it tells me my connection speed, how long i've been on line and how many bytes have been trans and rec.

drop to dos and type this at the prompt,

ping www.microsoft.com[enter] (http://www.microsoft.com[enter])

if you get a response then you are connected

Well, if you installed getright, maybe it's doing stuff behind your back???(aureate maybe???)

Also, you can open up a DOS box and type
"netstat" (no quotes) <enter>
If it shows a connection, it will tell you what port is open, and usually to what IP address or URL. The hard part is catching the connection in the act.

I tried GetRight. It wouldn't let me shutdown my comp! Being on cable, I never thought to check whether it was doing it's little spy deal at the time...

Another way would be to go in the
contrlpanel>modem>diagnotic>morinfo
If the port is open the computer wont be able to get the info and it'll say "Port Open"
