It looks like Promise has a history of using a single design for the Ultra's and the FastTrak's. I found this link to convert the Ultra33 into a FastTrak(33). http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/binary4/ultra33_index.htm

This mod apparently does not require soldering, but the Ultra33 will not reflash the bios. The bios has to be either physically replaced with FastTrak bios or reflashed by other means. The author of this link used some very unconventional means to obtain a FastTrak bios then flash over the Ultra33 bios.

I'll bet some of you out there could get some real use out of an old Ultra33 and a few (recently outdated) ATA33 drives. I have not tried this myself, but I'll bet someone can come up with a better(easier) way to do this mod. Not much to lose if you have one.

The Ultra66 mod is a go! I just received my Ultra66 today from Buy.com using a $20 coupon available here: http://www.gotapex.com/deals/dealsmar2000.htm
This coupon expires March 31st!!

I thought a few of you may also have unused Ultra33's and spare ATA33 drives. Just wanted to pass the info along.
