AOL will release Netscape 6 beta next week, see here:
http://www1.pcworld.com/pcwtoday/article/0,1510,15969,00.html
Will you give it a try or not? I have tried the Mozilla builds a few times and they seemed real buggy. I am hoping the beta will be an improvement, although I know a beta is a beta.
I might try it once , but I dont think for a long time. Netscap 4.6 has crashed me more frequently than IE 5.0

i've always had a preference for netscape ... i'm not too excited about it since the AOL acquisition but hey ... whatever. i'll definitely give the new one a go, though. i'll slap it on my test machine and see how it works.

What OS's is it supported on? If it was in the article, I missed it.

The current Mozilla build, Milestone 14, looks like it supports a heck of a lot of OS's. See here:

Not sure about the Netscape 6 beta, although I think they would do the same.

Can't wait.
6.0 is long overdue.

I might give it a whirl... I prefer netscape personally (honestly, no major reason why! LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif ), and really haven't had problems with 4.5 and 4.72 (currently) like others have.
Hopefully it's tweaked better, and will be a little faster than the previous versions.

I am going to try it to see if it is more stable than the 4.x versions. If not, I will stick with the faster-loading IE.

I like netscape better, but have been using IE since christmas. At that point I could no longer access my hotmail account through netscape, not sure what happend. I'll give it a shot.

I'm a netscape man also. I don't think I'll try the beta. I can hold off until the bugs are out. i use netscape mail and haven't found another mail program that's any good.

I used Netscape almost exclusively until it started falling behind. I'd love to see it ruling the net again, but that prolly won't happen primarily due to excess of cash in Redmond IMO. I'll definitely use NS 6, or, better Mozilla itself, without all the AOL extras.
Oh, btw, posted with leaked Netscape 6 (pre)beta. Runs fast, win2k, smp machine, 5 browser windows open, ok so far(couple of hours).

I've always used Netscape, but I'll wait until it's fully tested before running 6.
The only times that I have had the problems that you guys describe is when I'm overclocking a tad too much. Netscape just seems to be extremely sensitive to any hardware instabilities.

i used netscape til i took a class in web development and had to use IE to write VBScript. The best thing about IE is that it loads up much faster....the worst thing is that when it crashes it manages to take windows with it about half the time.
mostly i use IE because i see no reason for redundant software on my computer, and Netscape is close enough to IE that I don;t care which i use.
And unofficial preveiw release of Netscape 6 leaked on to there ftp site yesterday. They had gotten rid of it before I could download it, but those that did said it's still amazeingly buggy.

Not me. I'm an IE man, myself. I always hear webmasters talking about how Netscape always screws up their websites. Maybe the new version will fix that...

i've never had a problem with netscape .. not a severe problem anyway. the one problem i have had is relatively rare and here's what it is:
for some strange reason i've had netscape not take me to a new URL when i click on a link. it will highlite a link because it will recognize it as a URL but when i click on it nothing happens. at this point, even shutting down netscape and re-opening it will not work. the system has to be restarted and then it will open links fine. it's only happened 5 or six times in the past few years but it sure is irritating. i can't say i've had the problem at all with 4.72
but i'd rather take my chances with a browser that will not hose my entire system if the installation doesn't go exactly right. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
no - I never try new software - let 6 million other user's beta-test it before I consider using it on one of my systems....

psyklone: That happens to me too. Even though you shut it down, it's still running in the background! What you have to do is hit ctrl-alt-del and manually end task it a few times. Then it'll tell you that it's busy or something...just end it and restart netscape, everything should work now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Mine crashes way too many times, that stupid problem sender thing always pops up :/ Netscape doesn't like it when you "open too many new links in new browsers". Like when I come here I like to open lots of messages, sometimes it freezes :/ Hope the new version is more stable.
