I receive video error beeps when I power-up the PC (with a new ATI Radeon 64mg in it), and it halts before it gets a chance to post; and I know that this could mean a bad card.

So not to spend trouble-shooting time, could mobo/chipset compatibility issues and/or bios setting issues be causing this? (as I have yet to address, but know of them) . . . or, does the boot process not even get that far . . . ?

Thanks for any answers.

Hi,
What kind of mobo do you have? I have an ASUS A7A266 and had the same problem with the Radeon until I really jammed the thing in harder into the AGP slot. As far as compatiblity issues I don't know of any boards that would not support the card. Sorry could not help more, but push the card in really hard.

Thanks Simon. I will try that.

The mobo I have is a Gigabyte GA-5AX (sock7 w/AGP) and a AMD K6 3D 500 processor.

Reading up on some support info and FAQ's, I know there are some preferred bios settings (tried some). But not knowing enough about exactly how the initialization process happens, and I didn't want to be goofing around with a bad vid card.

I'll report . . . Thx Joe

The card is seated properly - I really made sure of that - and had it in maybe eight or so times after trying various settings in the bios (with help of the old card).

I guess it's just bad? To tell you the truth now, I'm not sure whether I get a post. After the error beeps (1 long and 3 short), the computer continues with some process with the HD, but then, short of a minute, shuts down; I just can't see what it's doing because the screen is black.

Try it in someone elses machine if you can, other things that can cause the machine not to post if is the ram/cpu is not seated properly. The Vid-card though is the likely culprit.
