Hi There,
I have some muscic on my records and some on cassette, I would like to make cd's out of them. I have a sblive. Whats the best way to do this?
Is there a software, that transforms wav to mp3? If you want to put songs together from various sources, how do you make the volume all the same? Do you use the microphone input or the line in on the back of the card? How do you clean the scratches on the records? Is there a site or faqs around that deals with these issues?

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm trying to figure out the best way around this......Thanks kindly for the help

Liam, Yeh there is a number of programs around to compress wave files to mp3's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif musicmatch jukebox is a quick and reliable one, it can be downloaded at a number of sites, napster is a excellant program for downloading mp3's, although their in litigations now. There is all kinds of info out there, as far as mp3's, do a search. zdnet had at one time a couple of pages of free mp3 tool downloads. Scratches can't be removed from records, the best thing is to clean and use a gun or such to remove static. I hav'nt done it myself but SBL manual indicates you can hook up a cassette to the line in. hope this helped http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Biff

You would need to use the line in jack on your sound card. You will also need a adapter of some type for the 1/8" plug.
I was going to do the same thing with my records but I used Napster to find many of the songs on the internet. You could get it
here. (http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=0011J9)

Just remember that all of the scratches and hisses from your analog recordings will be digitized along with the music.

x10 has a 70$ "device" that allows you to send dvd, mp3 etc to your home entertainment system and also send cassette/vinyl/cd etc back to your computer over a 2.4 gig wireless connection, check out their devices here:http://www.x10.com/

You can clean all the hisses pops and junk from the recording with Sound Forge 32, a little pricy but worth every dime. There is money to be made doing a record--clean-- put on CD. To convert wave files to MP3 or the other way use
http://execpc.com/MrShannon works fast and it is free.
