Say you have a computer and you decide to upgrade the Motherboard, cpu and memory.
How do you proceed. Given that you're using old HD,video card, sound card, nic, etc; do you just swap mb/cpu/mem for the new one, after setting your jumpers of course, or is there something more complicated going on?

I find that it is best to also re-format the HDD and re-install your OS while you're at it.

Basically, what you said is it. Set the jumpers appropriately, and make sure all the connections for buttons and LEDS on the case are in the right spots.

Not a lot to it really.

If you have any trouble, you know where to come.

the way I go about is first back up any important files that need to be kept, then Format the HD, switch of and remove old cards, and then mobo with ram and CPU still in place.
Mostly find that old ram is to slow for upgrade, and CPU is normally upgraded with MOBO any way, why put state of the art mobo in and then put old CPU back in.
if the Mobo is replaced through it failing I still would not reuse old CPU until it had been tried out on an old mother board, just incase it has also failed and caused the old Mobo to go down.
then assemble reuseing any parts that have been salvaged from old system and fresh install software and tune up.
We all have diff ways of doing it so will be interesting to see how other go about it.
