I have a P4 1.3GHz, intel D850GB motherboard,
plenty of ram and a SB live sound card, i am currently running it with a GeForce2 MX 400 64 MB card.. but it seems to not move as smoothly as i want when 3D gaming.. any suggestions?

Get either a Geforce 2 Pro GTS DDR or a Geforce 3 GTS DDR... These cards should keep you happy for some time. I use a Geforce 2 GTS 64MB DDR and Geforce 2 Pro GTS 64MB DDR and they both keep me without any complaints so far! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

i would like to try a geforce3 however the cost is a bit high! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif but i might look into the other one you mentioned!

Trust me, Geforce 2 GTS DDR is a fast card too! It'll me more than adequate to run heavy 3D games! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Since now there is only one brand of GeForce3 announced, I guess NDC meant plain GeForce3. In future, NV17 (GeForce3 MX ?) and more powerful Pro/Ultra versions might also appear. Meanwhile, there is only one GeForce3.

Best Regards ...

Hehehe, yes that is correct, ND. I have a habit of calling Geforce cards DDR at the end of the name. (I'm used to the days when they had Geforce 256 DDR/SDR) Of course all Geforce cards are DDR (Double Data Rate) memory. Sorry about the confusion, Spidey! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Nvidia Based cards are known to have problems with P4 systems (or the other way around). Look around for more info before you buy.

i have a p4 system too with an Asus P4T motherboard and Asus Geforce 3 card. Although I am able to play Emperor : Battle For Dune at the highest graphical setting =), I cant run counter strike http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif And heat is another problem...

Maybe you should consider the KYROII or the Radeon 64mb DDR cards. They won't pump out 200fps at 640X480X16 like a Geforce but past 1280X1024X32 they both consistently out-bench the GTS and sometimes the PRO. The Geforce III though can beat everything at everything it seems, then again, for the price it better!

On a budget and want high resolution, high color depth and 64MB of memory? Kyro II all the way baby. 120$ plus shipping if you buy at the right store...

So the PRO is better than the GTS in a geforce? If so does the PRO have a higher memory frequency?

i hear ati graphics cards work good with the p4, as in the ati all-in-wonder, i dont know if i am right about this for 3d gaming, correct me if wrong

Actually that is the only difference between a PRO and GTS. All pro's have higher clocked memory, they used to have higher clocked cores but SUMA and a few others sell GTS's clocked @ 200 I think. They're supposed to be 175.....I think http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I cannot confirm these problems first hand (I have neither a P4 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif nor a Gefroce http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif) but our tech support commented on it when we applied for a 3D workstation. Also, at least one retailer in the UK warned on a blow out sale day that P4 systems are not "compatible" with Geforce cards (to avoid RMA's).

Still before you buy make sure you hear otherwise to be on the safe side. I would probably drop the P4 to stay with a Geforce rather than the Geforce to stay with the P4.

EDIT: Oops, you already got the P4 (poor thing), so I guess you'll drop the Geforce if needed.

All the best.
