Appreciate your assistance.

Building a PC with some used hardware. The mainboard is a BIOSTAR MB-8500 TUC-A Ver. 3, and the video card an S3 Vision 864. Installed FDD, HD, CD-ROM and W98SE with no problems. Started the PC the next day, and the screen was black. Tried different memory modules, no change. The power supply is working, the CPU fan is working, and the HD is spinning. Tried two other video cards, nothing shows up.

Any ideas on this one??

What cpu do you have on there?

Check the back of the monitor for the cables.. Also check for bent pins in the monitor cable that connects to the video card..!

Try resseting the CMOS.. I don't know if it will help but... give it a try.!

hawkeye177, eagle1,

Thank you for your replies.

Went down to basics. Reseated the CPU, the video card, and the memory chips. Turns out that one (or more) SiMMs were the culprit. Replaced them, and the PC worked just fine.

Oh well!

Have a good weekend.
