Does anyone know how (or if it is possible) to have two video cards installed under WIN98(SE)?

We were using a Compaq laptop with Office 2000 to project PowerPoint slides in our church. The laptop, apparently, used one video card for the LCD and another one for the video-out connector as we were able to select two video screens from the Display "Properties" and then PowerPoint was able to project the slide show while letting us see (and alter) the outline view on the LCD.

We have now switched to a desktop with a Matrox video card in it that only has one video-out. I added an old Trident video card to see if WIN98 would allow both cards, but could not get it to work. When I installed the drivers for the new card, the Matrox complained that there were confilcts and did not work well at all.

I removed the Trident and un-installed its drivers and all is well now (with only one monitor).

Is it possible to have two? Or was the real problem that the Trident was too old to be compatible with this environment?

yes you can run 2 video cards in windows 98se go to the help files and look up dual monitors
just make sure they they are 2 diffurent video cards from 2 diff manufacturers
as in you can not run 2 3DFX cards, or 2 ATI cards, togather at the same time etc, etc. but you can run 1 3dfx and 1 ATI card togather

the easyest way to do this though is wiith one of the new cards that will run dual moniters all by it's self like the Matrox G400/450 dual head, both ATI and Nvidia both have cards with dual head capabilities now also
I would stick with the Matrox G450 based card as there set up is the easest to use at this time with the best driver support.

Both cards must be capable of running in multi-display mode.
Old Tridents are not capable of this.
You can use cards of the same make together, as long as the drivers properly support it. I know many users who run multiple Matrox cards in their systems.
What kind of Matrox card are you using? Unless it's a really really old one, it will be capable of multi-display.
If it's a single head G400, you can add a second head pretty cheaply, and not have to mess with adding another card.
