digital camcorder as videocam??

i have a digital camcorder with firewire and was curious if i can use it as a video cam and if so,what software would be best to use with it?? thanx

I'm currently looking at doing the same thing and I believe you can. From what I understand you'll have to remove the tape to prevent the auto shutoff after 5 mins. Then you'll need either a Firewire card or composite video capture card and video capture and editing software to process and display the signal.

thanx for responding,mark. i have firewire set up with ulead videw editing and also have ms netmeeting,but cannot get signal from firewire to netmeeting. do i need different software or(i hope not) a different video card?? tia,brad

I'm not sure, I haven't got there yet. But, I don't think your video card is the problem. Sounds more like a software configuration problem.
