That topic probably caught your attention real quick!
I was at a 3rd party test house today witnessing a Bellcore "flame test" on a PC-like computer for one of my clients and for some reason, even with about 20 engineers working for 15+ months on this machine, it had a card that had flammable components on it that made the thing burst into flames like the Hindenburg! I've seen many a test (and lots of flames) on larger systems I've designed or have been on the the project team for, but this one because of it's resemblance to a PC really hit HOME.
After witnessing this eruption up close and personal (my hair still reeks of "burn stink"), I thought I'd just mention to you all that it's a wise idea to put only UL APPROVED components in your home system, unless you want a Bar-B-Que on your desktop or under your desk! So, the next time you haunt the computer show or swap meeting, or buy from "Quick Frank's Computer Site", make sure you look for a label on the product that says UR or UL (or even CE will do!). If you really want to get picky, look for 94-V-0 or 94-V-1 flammability ratings on the PC boards. I wouldn't want to see you lose a loved one or your home because some schmuck sold you an inferior add-on for your 'puter.
Oh, and remember, leaving the sides off your case when OCing is an invitation to the BBQ, so button up your chasses!!!
i know, I know...I'm like an old grandmother, but PLEASE be safe rather than sorry...
