Hi everybody!
A friend installed a GeForce II MX (Hercules 2 MX PCI) into his Compaq and he is noticing system slowdown. It has a fresh installation of Windows 98SE on it. He had some problems with a Blaster Banshee PCI and decided to upgrade to a GeForce 2 but had to have PCI b/c there is no AGP in his system. I do not believe he has tried the latest drivers from nVidia yet. Anything you would recommend besides that?

System specs
Compaq system
K6-2 350
180 MB PC100/PC133
40GB IBM hdd
4 GB Seagate hdd
24x cd-rom
Winmodem
Onboard sound
Onboard video (disabled)
Hercules GeForce2 MX PCI

Thanks
Dave

I have just bought a PCI InnoVision GF2mx 64mb, and it does a similar slow down on my I810 mobo/Cel2-600/256mb's pc133 system. The biggest thing I've noticed is during a reboot. The reboot time actually more than doubled after installing this card. I never installed the drivers that innovision supplied, I went straight to the Detonator version 6.50, and up (yes I tried them all).

Also, this video card loads games in a VERY slow way....slower than anything I've ever seen. I have tried all tweak programs, with no success at shortening these "pauses" during game loading, or reboot.

The only thing I can think of (and this is just speculation) is that this problem is caused by the GF2mx chipset being designed for a far greater bandwidth than a PCI slot (agp2x/4x).

On a lighter note, this card runs games really great...I just have to wait a little longer than I would like for them to load up.
