Killed a NIC when I accidentally plugged in a phone line ( I was plugging into the back by touch method).

Killed a 486 motherboard when I decided to pry the old cache chips out with a pocket knife and slipped - finished upgrading the cache by installing a new motherboard.

Killed a Seagate 1.6GB hard disk by low level formating it - first successful RMA.

Almost killed a TNT by impropper hookup (and subsequent massive sparking) of a USB riser cable - but a BIOS flash of the TNT brought it back to life!

Killed a 540mb HD and a 190mb. Killed a RageIIc by giving 88mhz memory. Put a COOL burn mark in a permedia2 by clocking it to 143mhz, insted of 83.

I effectively fried my V7702U by setting the FSB to 133 while the AGP/CPU clock was 1/1 lol - I can laff now!

I don't think I'm directly responsible for any hardware deaths yet (aside from the sacrificial mice.. lol), but there are a few dead parts lying around:

Western Digital 1.2g hard drive (Probably because of a hole in the seal around it)

Samsung 1.2g hard drive (Almost dead when it was given to me, and it died a very slow death)

Logitech sound card (Bought used, DOA)

Opti931 sound card (Mysteriously died one day, still works with DOS drivers (in DOS or 3.11) last time I checked)

GVC NIC (Given to me in the same system as the above hard drive, DOA)

4 meg ram chip (Bought used from a member, DOA)

Jaton 56K modem (Mysteriously died one day...)

8x CD drive (Still works, but I have to slide it out of the system, flip it over, and smack it around before it'll open)

IBM 286 (20 meg (wow) hard drive never worked)

And a couple of mice butchered for spare parts (Few were sacrificed so many can live...)

That's all that comes to mind. There's probably more...

MY BP6 DIED!!!
after 1 1/2 weeks
it turns on and everythjing LOOKS like its running ok.., but I get no video
even the AGP FAN which is plugged into the AGP card works fine..but no video output at all...Kinda sucks..not seeing anything on screen and all.
I tried 2 cards..tryed everything
definitly the board...
MY 300w power supply died with it...the board may have died as a result.
Anywys I doubt they will let me RMA it now.
I found my old BH6 which i thought was broke..works fine for now, but if i even touch the case, it resets or shuts itself off.
I absolutely loved the BP6, so chances are im just gunan replace it with another one.

Other broked stuff...
56k modem, and 2 Harddrives, all broke outside of operation, prolly from static or sumthin.

In last month. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
1 SCSI Atlas drive, power supply, Hi Val CDRW, and Quantum AT drive, and one back up CDRW disc.
Still can'y believe the Mobo CPU and Actima drive were alright, considering you could fry eggs on the top of the tower case.

Killed my Dell Inspiron just by opening it. Fortunately Dell replaced it w/out cost. (didn't tell them I opened it, though, heheh)

As for resurrecting something, My Tyan mobo kept giving me intermittent errors and I got so frustrated I stood up, brought my arm back and punched the case as hard as I could. There is now a solid crack in the case, but my Mobo is running Linux just fine now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

Consiering the number of years I've been in computers, I have only damaged a few items:

-33.6 ISA modem
-early k6-2 300 (let's say it wouldn't o/c very well)
-6gig WD hard drive
-17" Digital monitor
-a few mice
-nearly cooked an i740 vid card (literal, you could smell the PCB overheating!)
-turned the heatsink an odd color on a 3dfx Banshee
-shorted out a few sets of cheap computer speakers (I guess they won't hold 400 watts rms!!)

I sure I've missed some cheap components, like ide and power cables. For the most part, I consider my hardware loss ratio to be rather low considerig the number of systems I've dealt with.
