I race amateur dirt/asphalt tracks in the south. Anyone else? Tell me there's some other puter geek who can shut it off for a couple of hours to labor and strain over something else besides me?!?!?!

Between school, work, and being a nerd, I don't have much free time to spend on hobbies.

The closest thing I have to a hobby is sleep.

Not much the last couple of years but my true love is cars. I now a have a 1954 Caddy in the works http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif, I just have to work out the title problems(no title, It is sitting on some land a friend bought).
I think I may have to chop and drop it. I am going to look at it tommorow and get the VIN and see what happens. However I may buy and sell it or trade for a Chevelle or V8 Vega/monza 74 or older, maybe even a MustangII.
And playing guitar.

Not really a hobby, but my primary job is my kids - 4 of them. So, that's the majority of where my time is spent. If it's not taking care of them, it's just spending quality time with them that's important, and fun too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

Then there's gardening which I love. Every minute I can get, I spend outside...

I farm a little. Got a few head of cattle and put up quite a bit of hay in the summertime. Anytime anybody wants to come and work some let me know, I'll let you throw hay around all you want http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Thinking about getting into the cane/sorghum/molasses business but that's a whole lot of work and I'm also going back to school this fall so that might be out. Seems like if I'm not on the tractor or computer, I'm working on one of them. What fun.

This bird is 3 feet high and made primarily of 3/16" steel plate and other odds and ends. It sold in a Beverly Hills Gallery for a measly $300 - I only got half that... Oh well.

Before I busted my back in a crash two years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of having a job and a hobby that were basically one and the same. Flying, flying, flying....got it on the brain real bad. I can't do it for a job anymore, but it's still a great hobby. Once I sell my plane, I'll be either building another one rigged with full hand controls or refitting an existing aircraft.

I guess I'm stretched a bit thin
I go to night school, trying to finish those elusive last 8-10(depends on my records or thiers, I transfered 3 times) classes for my BSBA.
Trying to de-program myself from the navy, I've been Navy "free" for 13 months now, I got myself a REAL job. :-) Systems Analyst.
I have a partner and together we are buying a house, close this week on Thurs. YIPPIE. We also have adopted 2 greyhounds. Something I've wanted for a few years now.
I also picked up another hobby. I bought a Alfa Romeo Spider last Spring, needs a little restoring (fading paint and new top) 95% orignal eqip, with only 44k original miles.
Im sure my spare time will be consumed by the dogs, and new house chores. Though I have assigned Kevin the duties and responsibilities of caring for the pool.

Now All I have time for is to do a bit of fishing by just going down the back of section to the Harbour waters and trying to catch the odd snapper, flounder, Ray and Mullet.

Well, aside from being a high school student, I also try to balance out working with computers, ham radio (since 1994), and keeping my emotions under control. Don't know what I'd do without any of these things as my "hobbies". School and controlling my emotions aren't exactly fun, but I manage (or at least try to).

My life is sooo bizare. I spent my whole life wanting to be an orchestral musician. I acheived it and played professionally for about decade, while also getting my Artist Diploma and Masters Degree, and working on a Doctorate. Ummm...then I left my wife, and started a new life as a Network Administrator! Hehehe.

My hobbies are anything computer related, especially networking, web page building, and computer gaming. Perform musically when "I" feel like it. =P! Also, spirituality, meditation, and yeah, sleeping =).

-designing/building LARGE car stereo systems
-shortwave radio

Oh yeah, I forgot abnout that one RobRich! I do LARGE car stereos too (me and my bro). His car is a 1998 Golf with Focal Top-of-the-line Component sets. He has one 15" sub. His old stereo in this car was a boomer. It was 2 MTX Thunder 2300 Amps powering 3 MTX Thunder 7000 15" Subs. Now that was a boomer!

RobRich
03-27-2000, 09:00 PM
I've had to scale back my car's stereo because of the local police, so here ya go:

-Pioneer 140watt head unit

-2 = 5*7 high performance 2 ways
-2 = 6*6 high perfomance 3 ways

-MTX 2 channel 425 watt (rms) amp
-Active low pass crossover
-2 = 10" MTX sub's in seperate ported bandpass enclosers

Used to also include:

-40 watt 2 channel 12 band EQ

-2 = 8" dual coil sub's in sealed box, 2 = 2*4 tweets
-Audio Gods 2 channel 400watt (max) Class A digital amp
-2 passive crossovers

-8" dual coil sub in ported bandpass tube
-Craig 2 channel 200 watt (max) amp

-2 = 8" high performance woofers in seperate ported boxes, 2 = 2.5 tweets
-Alpine 2 channel 200 watt (rms) amp

-2 = Cheap 8" woofers in sealed enclosure
-Phantom 2 channel 200 watt (max} amp

-2 = 6*9 3 ways in sealed box
-Craig 2 channel 40 watt (max) amp

I can still hit some good bass, but nothing like it was. I had a run in with the police in my area, and I was instructed to turn it down or recieve some large fines and possible confiscation. I'm going to have to work on my current system, as I have extremely good bass, but little else. Inside my car the mid and highs are good, but nothing but bass outside. My last setup had extremely well balanced sound, as the mids were just as loud as the bass. You could actually here the music and the lyrics, not just a thumping sound driving down the road. The scary part was that I crammed all this in a Firebird. It proably was a good thing, though, as I'm sure my car would have been shook apart by now.

My next project is my Mercede's 450. I've already got the car itself about 80% finished. It runs great (150+ mph) and looks good, but I need a paint job and my front seats redone. I'll get around to it one of these days. As for it's stereo, it already has a rather nice Alpine head unit, so I've got a good foundation to start with. I probably invest in some good 15's to drop in the trunk, and a good 400-600 watt amp. That should hold me over for awhile, until I get he urge to "tweaking" it again.

Missing the point
03-27-2000, 09:09 PM
My dad is getting a sweetass stereo for his 1996 VW Jetta. You may know it, becasue it is mighty famous. It is the first Jetta to have a Audi 1.8T motor put in it. You can look at it here= http://www.momentummotor.com/1.8T%20jetta.htm

It is gonna be getting a real sound quality system. here are the components:

Exact 6 coax (back)
Exact 6 comp (front)
Exact 12" sub (2 rear deck)
Class A 1002 Amp
Class A 804 Amp
Pioneer Head unit(haven't decided which one)

I don't know a lot of the details, but here is the meat of it.

RobRich
03-27-2000, 10:22 PM
That Jetta is nearly as screwed up as an Audi is used to own. Back in high school, I had an '84 Audi 4000SQ Quattro. 1984 was only the only year that Audio included true 4 wheel drive (not all wheel drive, which has been used since) in the 4000 sedan series. The really wierd part was that it had a high output 5 cylinder enigne that was found in the better 5000 series. After consulting with some experienced people, that car was a limited production run of a couple of thousand. Well after I got done with it, it would definitely run. I used to love taking it to town a playing around with the the smaller sports cars (MR-2's, Fieros, Reatta's, Mitsubitshi's, etc.). I could even keep pace with the stock Mustang and Camaro v8's.

If you want to see something really wierd, you need to see this Volvo wagon that runs around my town. My mechainic just finished the changeover of it. It now has Corvette LT-1 350! thats been completely perfermance built, plus an upgraded suspension and drive train.

BTW, Exact makes some nice stereo component's, so that should be a definite competition system.

Also, I just noticed the bunch of amatuer radio operators listed above. Does anyone still talk on 10/11 meter? I've still got all my equipement, but rarely ever use it anymore. Before I really got interested in computers, I could waste hours just setting around and talking on the radio. Kind of inspires me to fire up my old system and cook off some of the dust. i fugure that most people now talk on 2 meter, 220, and 440. These bands are gaining popularity in my area, but I prefer my long distance communications. Since the FCC now allows liscencing for 10-160m communications without learning morris code, I might get around to taking the test. The written section is no prob, but I never had an interest to learn the code.
