Dave oblivion 03-26-2000, 12:23 AM http://grc.com/optout.htm Go there and read that site, the guy has made a tiny tiny program that will check your HDD and system for most invasive advertisement software dlls and files, and reg entrys, then you can remove it with the program......... getright is a program that does such a thing for example rotax 03-26-2000, 12:45 AM thanks it removed a lot of **** from my hd, i hope it didnt screw anything else up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif seti 03-26-2000, 12:50 AM "Curbing the wave of hysteria" I don't know if anyone on the site as mentioned this yet. Aureate has changed ther name to Radiate (http://www.radiate.com). Addressing False Rumors and Hoaxes about Privacy Recently there have been false rumors circulating that Radiate (formerly Aureate Media) is secretly collecting data from users of software in the Radiate Network. These rumors have included accusations such as collecting hard drive information, tracking where users surf, stealing system registry information, and 'spying' on user activity. All of these accusations are false. What Radiate does do is deliver advertisements that are displayed in the software applications that are part of our network. In addition, our users are presented with a voluntary user survey which includes questions such as user hobbies and interests. All questions in this survey are optional and users are told that their responses to this survey will help us to deliver advertising messages related to their interests. The delivery of these advertisements is what allows users to receive software applications at a discounted or often free of charge. Maintaining user privacy is a primary concern of ours, and we strictly adhere to our privacy policy which you can find at http://www.radiate.com/privacy.html. If you have particular privacy concerns not addressed here, please contact us a privacy@radiate.com and we will be happy to address those concerns. Sincerely, Radiate U-96 03-27-2000, 01:02 AM I have to admit that while I don't think they fulfill the worst fears about "phoning home" the lack of any consent for installation, and failure to uninstall with the host app are reason enough for me to doubt this company. Even worse, they change their name (kind of makes you wonder if they will do the same with their file names to elude Steve Gibson's app) and then issue a statement which comes from "Radiate" rather than a named officer of the company.... hmmmm not convincing... U-96 U-96 03-27-2000, 07:02 AM [edit]ummm forget it, was being unbelievably stupid. Let's just say that Aureal make cards, not spyware LOL U-96 [This message has been edited by U-96 (edited 03-27-2000).] Dave_H 03-27-2000, 07:15 AM edit-I misread that link too, shame-edit Dave [This message has been edited by Dave_H (edited 03-27-2000).] narayan 03-27-2000, 10:17 AM Well I don't want them to know anything about me. Privacy statement, right. jadison 03-27-2000, 05:38 PM I downloaded the program and even ran it to test it out... it found something like 167 files related to Aureate/Radiate...then it gave me the option to delete them which is what I was about 2 do until I read this: <b>Be aware that this will very likely cause ALL of the programs dependent upon these files to cease functioning, now or in the future.</b> Should I do this!?!, I still use Getright and a couple of other progs...CDDB is being used by MusicMatch Jukebox 5! so what SHOULD i do? -jd- oblivion 03-27-2000, 06:37 PM Jadison..if you have getright without the advertisements(you know the uh registered way)it may not work afterwards.....but getright works fine for me after I have deleted all of these files....just try it,you could always reinstall music match. YGM raider rick 03-27-2000, 07:16 PM Steve Gibson, the man behind GRC.com IS the man! That site is the best, for security, and freeware security software! I use it several times a week. I ran Opt-Out, and removed 22 potential Spyware entries. Also, check out his Shields-UP site & his Port Probe. jadison 03-27-2000, 07:59 PM I know this is consistent, but I don't want to have to re-download Music Match, I have all of my song files customized, everything about the prog is just the way I like it, I just want 2 make sure if i run this prog or any other assoc. with Aureate/Rad. then it'll work!! But if not I might as well leave them there, they haven't done me any harm (yet!). thanks for any input -jd- SysOpt.com
