But you can do a lot to prevent it. Have a junk mail address, and anytime you're required to enter your e-mail addy....give it that one. Hmm, lets see...in my junk mail addy account I have 72 new, unread juck e-mails....I empty it about once every 5 days. And now I've taken to only entering that e-mail when they're going to send a confermation e-mail about something....otherwise I just enter a@b.c You just have to keep off the spam lists. socalgal 03-26-2000, 04:01 PM Hi Dave2 If you're using OE5, you can also block sender from further sending you email. It's in the Message menu. You can always try something like http://www.junkbusters.com/ There's also something you can add to your email addy that has 'nospam' included in it, but I'm not 100% sure where that goes in. Anyone? welsh wizard 03-26-2000, 04:45 PM I have always found sending e-mail back with message "please remove my e-mail address from your mailing list" to work quite well, worth a try for you. Dang junk mail! Even my hotmail address keeps getting the junk and it has a filter. Ah well http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Just keep on deleting... U-96 03-27-2000, 12:42 AM ww i gave up with that, all it does is confirm to the spammer that your address is active also read-receipt can do the same, and clever ones insert web-bugs into HTML mail which will register an active address to the spammer... if you don't know who it's from, delete http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif U-96 welsh wizard 03-27-2000, 04:08 AM If he comes back I normally find his or try to find his ISP and then lodge a complaint, most ISp don't want SPAM going out from their sites, if its one of those that don't care put a bar in the e-mail proggy. I must admit most times the ISP puts a stop to the persistent ones, as they get fed up if they keep getting bumped from the ISP's. or send em one of these http://thedam.com/cwm/smile/icw/010.gif or just get http://thedam.com/cwm/smile/dvv/pissed.gif Then you get even WW Dave_H 03-27-2000, 01:28 PM If your talking about your Hotmail account, they have a no spam policy. You may want to read the "policy and member conduct" part. Here is a part of it: If you receive any junk e-mail or any threatening or offensive e-mail, please forward one complete, unedited copy of the e-mail message with the full message headers to abuse@hotmail.com. Thats what I do, I forward every single one. Dave Sharpy 03-27-2000, 03:06 PM Thanks Dave my hotmail accounts unusable now because of junk mail. wyvrn 03-27-2000, 03:31 PM Set your mail reader to "view all headers" or "view expanded headers". Then forward that email to abuse@yourisp.net . Most ISP have a very active and helpful spam policy and will put a stop to it. Socalgal, what you were referring to is this. I will use my email address as an example. In your mail reader's properties, set your email address to vesperNoSpAm@crinos.net . Then add a sig file that says "remove nospam from my email address when replying". That way, people will know to use vesper@crinos.net, but the bots that search databases for email addresses will try to use vesperNoSpAm@crinos.net and get a delivery error. Your email address is normally "harvested" by bots (little programs) that search newsgroups and chats lists for email addresses and compile them. Most of these are not smart enough to remove "NoSpAm" from your email addy before using it. Another good idea is to use a dummy account at a free email provider when you register for something, that way your main email address is relieved of needless spam. Both Hotmail and Yahoo have a feature that allows you to "block" a spam email. These work great for dummy accounts. stppetty 03-27-2000, 06:58 PM I found this site that might be of interest to you in the future www.zerojunkmail.com (http://www.zerojunkmail.com) socalgal 03-27-2000, 07:21 PM Thanks, wyvrn! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mr Twobit 03-27-2000, 07:54 PM Dave..... What you forgot to say is, Hotmail then takes your report and throws it away. They do absolutly NOTHING! Gives me an idea for a new post.... Who wins this year's OSCAR for BEST (worst) SPAMMER!
