Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Acer Open destroying my hard drives???
I have gone thru 3 hard drives on my Acer Open pc. I keep getting bad sectors ???Not sure why. I did notice the hard drive is located at the top of the case with the cd-rom directly below it keeping the top of the hard drive and bottom of the hard drive covered. Is this an overheating problem???
The pc is used generally for office work and is usually left on all the time. Any suggestions as to what is causing this problem. Have gone with 2 Seagate hard drives and the latest one a Western Digital.
this one isn't even six months old????
thanks

Whats Up Mr. T?
Bad Sectors are usually caused by Media defects of failing Heads. I would send the drives back for warranty replacement if there fairly new and get replacements. Most IDE drives have standard 3 year manufactures warranties. I would first take the drives back to where you got them. Unless the drives are getting extremely hot I don't believe that would do it. I have tons of Seagate 6.4's that have huge amounts of Bad Sectors but are just 2 or 3 months old!! Drives suck these days! I would try a small insignificant drive 850MB or something that is known good without Bad Sectors and see how it holds up. For the Western Digital you can download a real good utility (WDDIAG) from my website. This will repair almost any errors almost permanatly. I have an Acer Aspire case and setup myself, non Acer motherboard though, and have not had any problems like you're describing.
Good Luck!
