Low 3d mark score

I ran this program and got a score of 849.I doubled the ram and did a few recommended settings tweaks, and got a score of 889...
System:P3-550e@733(133fsb) w/sloket on a Soyo6vba133 mobo.256mb Infineon @ 133,cas2.Guiilimot geforce256 sdr @110-143, using D3 6.31 drivers and DX8.1028x780x16 and 75hz refresh.
The test games play lousy while my 3D games play great,especially "StarLancer"...waszup?

This sounds wierd - Killer system, with killer GFX card, yet low scores...?

Well, as long as your games run the way they should - who cares what a stupid benchmark program says - right?

Yea, you have a point,but I'd like to know if I've done something wrong.The 3D Mark site tested my system as excellent, yet the scores are lousy.

It tested it as excellent!? Even my GeForce2 MX gets around the 5000 3DMark on 1024x768x16. So definitely I don't think your score is that great. You should get at least 3700-4000 3DMarks, I don't know since I never owned a GeForceSDR card, maybe some1 who does might be able to help you more.

Ive got a similar system to yours i.e P3-550@770 on an ABIT BE-6 w/256 CAS 2 Crucial and a Prophet SDR. Running 6.47 Det.3 drivers I was getting 4850 +-10 pts. I went up to 6.5 drivers (running WIN2K) and my scores went up to 4930. I switched over to a spare Elsa Erazor-X SDR card and my scores are around 5000 now. I think if you go to the 6.50 drivers,d/l NVMAX, turn Vert.Sync off, allow max frame rates on and run-3dmark on a clean system that you will see some improvements. Give it a try and let us know...steve

You read my mind...I just downloaded D3 7.52 drivers.I'm running Direct X 8.I read where these two would be more compatible than DX8 w/6.31 drivers.Watcha' think?

Maybe you have v-sync enabled. If it is, then it could be limiting you to 75 or so fps (you refresh rate). Try downloading a card overclocker or the like and it will probably have a v-sync disable option. Have you got FSAA enabled?? Just checking, because I made that mistake before http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif , never stop mentioning it when someone says "low 3dmark". But I doubt it would be this, but you never know!

I've tried all the tweaks:vsync,anti-aliasing,flipping,no running programs,fresh boot,etc.They helped a little. I e-mailed RobRich and asked him about my drivers(DX8 and D3-6.31),he said no compatibility problems.
The 2 newest games I have are StarLancer and Tachyon(3-D space shooters).SL is played with everything maxed and I get about 30-70 FPS.Tachyon is played at medium settings and FPS is 20-60. Both at 1068x780x16.Comparitively, this should equate to a 3d Mark score of 3000 or better, I would guess.
I OC'd the vid card to 150mhz.Made some difference, not much.
Any clues?

May have found the problem.....1)Was using 3D Mark ver1.0 2)Was using Via4in1 4.04 AGP driver.
I installed ver1.1 and updated to 4.05. Reran 3D Mark and got a score of 4029...games play faster and with better textures....seems too simple, huh?

That score is much better isn't it?? Also, you can get VIA 4-in-1 4.28 and 4.29 Beta Drivers already, so you may want to download them as well.

wait wait wait. are u guys talking about 3D Mark 2000 or 2001. i wouldnt be surprised if u got a bad score in 2001 cuz i got a bad score and i have T-Bird 1000@1200 w/Geforce2 32MB and got a 3000.
