hey - she's free to pander her religious beliefs and people in CA are free to protest in favor of theirs. They are also free not to listen to her show.

it's entertainment - junk-food for the brain, man - don't take it too seriously - that's how she became so popular to begin with.

I, for one, couldn't stand Howard and am happy he's gone - but I didn't protest - I simply didn't care to listen to his show or watch his TV show. - that's my choice.

On another take - all but the mute eventually become hypocrites..... and even then....

lastly - she's not really my type so I could care less about any nude spread, although you could get sued for your comment on this public board. food for thought.

I listened to her blast some 30 yr old man for dating a 18 yr old girl. This young lady is legal in most states to do anyting she likes except drink or buy a handgun. DrLaura went on to tell this guy that the girl was too immature and only when she reached 28 or so would she be "old" enough for such a mature man.. I'm a southern Baptist and I feel this is an infringement on her personal rights. Many people die between 18 and 28, would the good DrLaura prefer a virginic, childless corpse, I suppose. Well, for one I do not support all of her opinions.. DrVette

So does anyone? First time I heard her back in college, she was berating some poor lady for not being good enough to keep her husband (he was unfaithful) and then not getting child supports payments. Like I am sure that was not her fault. I did not like her then and I do not like her now. I think it is stupid she goes by "Dr." when her doctorate is not in psycology or anything pertaining to her radio show. She is very damaging to others on her show, being a hypocrate herself. She has exposed herself in a nude spread and is on her second husband, but denounces divorce and public nudity on her show. She needs to be taken off of the air!

people are making too big a deal about her--- she's been on the radio for years now and it wouldn't be any difference if she's on tv. If people don't like her then they don't need to listen to her. Instead they worry we might listen to her

Yeah the activist groups who call her a homophobe,bigot,intolerant,etc. are the same groups who attempt to squash her 2nd amendment rights to free speech, while ram-rodding their own agenda with media blitzes. Such hypocrisy! Everyone has a right to speak, but I have a right not to listen...

I am not worried about being sued. It is called freedom of speech, and I have not said anything that was not the absolute truth, she has admitted to it, and that has not been written in national newspapers 100 times. Bah she would not waste her time with me or this board most likely (no offense sysopt). I suppose you are right, everyone has their right to free speech. But I pity those that actually take her advice. I guess they deserve it though, they are asking for it.

She is just a woman that happen to get a radio show and gained an audience that worships her. Its all about money and fame. Hey i could be a Dr if i wanted to you don't need no medical degree. She just another Radio Freaks that can't get on tv. The people that call her must be pretty desperate and stupid because she no even a legit therapist. Like bob villa i heard he not even a real contractor and some people hire him to build them a house i think and it sucked. This is america full of famous people and conmen. So you never know who is who.

I fail to see the point in threads like these (especially in a computer hardware site). Its one thing to discuss her views, but to flat out insult her is totally different. I dont see the point in judging Laura Schlessinger when none of us are perfect ourselves.

The people who are protesting her are just exersizeing their rights.
And I used to listen to Howard and loved the show, now I think he is an idiot.

Chip, i dont understand why you are offended by this thread, and you weren't offended by the hampster thread.

We all know this forum as the goofy one. I dont usually expect to get into heated debates on time travel(its possible!), i come here because its a fun place to talk, and also is a great source of info. I go to tech. support all the time, and i'm always learning things.

This forum is for us to unwind, not to get upset over meaningless banter.

"Goofy one"? I'm not sure what you mean by that. To call this site the "Goofy one" is a little bit out of line. Scott and others have spend many tens of thousands of hours and money to help build it to what it is now. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the three top three on the net that I'm aware of.

The difference between this thread and say the o/c hampster thread is that it was taken in good spirit. The point of this thread was to bash someone who probably would not have a chance to come here and defend themself, and I didnt agree with it, no matter who the target is. I wouldnt want someone to do it to me.

(edit) and for the record, im not particularily fond of Dr Laura myself. Some of the things she says makes perfect to me but I dot agree with the "in your face" attitude she likes to take with everyone. But there are plenty of people she has helped with her radio show.

I was not trying to "bash" anyone, just point out he hypocrite that she is. I posted the thread because I found it relevant to our daily lives, she is a "fixture" on radio and as a celebrity has an impact on many many people in this country. Forget the fact that she cannot "defend" herself. That is ludicrous. I am not talking about a guy down the street, I was referring to someone who voluntarily puts herself on public airwaves to voice her opinions behind the guise of being a "doctor" relevant to her show. If she did not want the scrutiny, she should have chosen another profession. It is just like talking about the president of the United States, everyone has an opinion and we "all" talk about him behind his back, so how is he to answer to every conversation in the country aimed at him? Saying that I cannot express my opinions on someone who makes a living in a public medium is silly, omho. As a matter of fact, I have tried to call her show a couple of times way back when she was in my listening area (have not checked for her here, I would rather not listen to her again), but her lines were always full, hence the post. I am sorry (not really) if any of you are offended, but this is a General discussion forum, not one limited to computer topics. If that were the case, threads like "what are your other hobbies" (which I thoroughly enjoyed reading by the way http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif would not exist. If you are going to post your opinions on that topic, then do not limit it to just my particular thread please. [/end rant]
