Well iam only 15 and i think i can do this myself i only got 120 bucks and can buy the mother board do all hardware installments (or so i beleive i can) but since iam so poor i cant afford a case can i just use my case (the computer is a emachine 366id) i am planning on useing all hardware that came with it excludeing the sound and graphics card with a sound blaster live! value and a monster fusion pci but thats not really my question can i use my old case and like get the thing to stick in there wihtout moveing (hey 2 screws bound to line up right?) and a little confirmation on the installing process

I but everything together start it up repartition the drive (is that neccessary cause only dif is motherboard) some dude at best buy said I would have to format the drive would I do that before or after the new mb is installed? cause i want an AGP slot and some more pci slots and another ram slot (96mb not quite enough) will i need to put my cd-rom drivers on disk? what else? try to scare me away from doing it if you know i will mess up

Most likely you won't need any CD-ROM drivers... unless it's some sort of proprietary CD-ROM. I have no experience with EMachines, but if it's a standard IDE or EIDE drive, Windows should detect it fine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Good luck with your building endeavor... I'm 14 and I know how much trouble it can be upgrading a computer on a budget!

Know how ya feel, smokey; 13years old, looking for the cash for a new ZX board and a C366.
You might want to get an Abit BP6 - it's a lot for $145, but it will take two celerons, allow you to overclock, etc. Make sure you have the space for it or any other full size ATX board, your e-machine might be a micro-ATX. If you get a BP6 and get another chip later, you'll need an SMP complient o/s.
Good luck, my friend!

Wow! a bunch of young people. Yeah for a long time i was trying to save up some money for parts to build my computer. It took me about six months to save up about $500. I know how you guys feel working off a budget. It's hard for me because i don't get an alowance just some money here and there. I just turned 15 March 19th and i still have the problem trying to get some money for my hobby http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You know what, i need to get a job as a sack boy for Tom Thumb or something like that. Although i know i won't so i guess i'm stuck. Oh well!

Young people rule!! (no disrespect to older people http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)

I put my first system together by trading in the following free bits - 1.6g HDD, 16mb EDO, 64mb FPM, case, P100 and board, 486dx4 100 and board, 8x CD. I got a free 2gb HDD from a skip. If you get the offer of it, always take old computer stuff - lots of it is worth money. With all this trading and scabing, I ended up with a warped AT case, a CT-5AGM2 mobo, a k6-2 350, 32mb PC100, a 4mb Ati Rage IIc, a crystal sound codec, a 40x cd, an FDD and a 2gb HDD. With tradins from that, I'm up to 64mb ram, 450mhz k6-2 at 550mhz, 32mb Savage4. I also got money from designing a presentation and website for my dad. Next, me's shootin' for a Soyo ZXboard and a C366.
Remember - keep the cr*p!

Yeah i agree with alpha about the old stuff. One time i acually got more money selling a P133 computer seperately in parts than when it was together and operational. I guess some people don't want to buy a whole computer and only use one part http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes save all your old stuff. It can make some money to support your growing need(want) for computers. Trust me!

Feeling old(22)
anyhow, what you guys should also do, is call all the stores around town, they usually have a clearance bin, and lots of goodies!~) well at least here in Canada.
I would recomend, depending on what ur using the comp for (imagine pure hardcore gaming) you read some of the reviews on the boards, and you can prob find a really good board 4 really cheap.
I got stuck with a ****-o-matic board, and my new comp crashes every 4 hrs, sometimes in even less time.
