Ok i have a problem..

i woke up this morning and I woke up my computer and much to my surprise I saw black lines running across my monitor. At first I thought my monitor broke or something, but when I clicked the start menu it came up and more lines appeared. It seems that it is taking anything black and smearing it across my screen horizontally. I checked to make sure that the right monitor was selected and the correct drivers, and everything looks normal. I restarted, and reinstalled windows. Also when I went to Internet explorer the text was huge, that’s what made me think that it is a windows problem. I have no clue as to what is going on PLEASE help. I need these lines gone!!!

I am not sure what the cure for your problem is but I have it. It only happens after leaving black and white text up for a while. If I close IE for a min or two it goes away. If I reboot same thing, fixed for a while. It never happens during games or if the screen is more "exciting" than more or less plain text.

I am begining to think this may be a monitor heat problem? In one of my very unscientific experiments I was sufing around mostly black and white text sites and waited for this to happen again. When it did finnaly I was armed with a 16inch deskfan. I turned on the fan and in 5 mins everything cleared up.

Now the big question .... is there any easy access 12v in there for a permanent fan? If this puppy is dieing I want to slow it down.

Mykex,

If you can get your hand's on a tin of freezer spray, you could possibly identify the actual component thats upset. Maybe replace it, and restore you monitor to good working condition. Sound's to me easier than what your considering.

Child, is this a permanent fault now, or intermittent? Does changing your contrast or brightness reduce the black smear slightly?

All the best, Justy.
