If you run WIN98 go into system properties and click the performance tab. Click on File system, then the Floppy disk tab, un select the 'search for new floppy...' setting.

While there, click on Hard disk and set the typical role to Network server.

These tend to improve response a great deal!

For Win95, get TweakUI.inf off the install cd and right click it and select 'install'

You can use it to do roughly the same things.

BBA good trick!

You can also clean out your Documents (Start Menu) to make your floppy disk drive stop searching for a floppy that's not there.

Thanks guys!! I already had the floppy seek disabled, and file system set to server. My problem was a full documents folder. Weird.

BBA-How exactly does changing the typical role of the HD from desktop to network improve response??

You can set TweakUI to dump your Doc folder each reboot
