This is the video card I bought. The page says it is DDR memory, but it looks like SDR memory instead. Anybody else buy this card and have 4 sided pins on the memory chips?

Does it perform like a GF2 pro? If so, its a pro...no need to worry.

I don't think it performs the way it should. My 3dmark 2000 score is 4900.

Approximately 5000 should be about right for your configuration with a GF-2 Pro.

To verify:

I assume you have installed nVidia's reference drivers. If not, then I would recommend downloading the 6.35 Detonator3 drivers. Other 6.xx drivers are available, but the 6.3x versions seem to offer the best performance for most. These can be obtained at 3dchipset:
http://www.3dchipset.com/beta/nvidia/list.html

You may also wish to try 7.17. I personally have had sucess with these DX 8 compatible drivers. However, many nVidia users have suffered varous compatibility and performance problems with the newer 7.xx driver releases.

To verify your card's clock speeds, download and install the Coolbit's registry hack. More information can be obtained here:

http://www.3dchipset.com/utilities/nvidia/regedits/coolbits/index.html

After installing Coolbits, your nVidia control panel will feature a hardware overclocking option. Within this panel, it will indicate your card's current core and memory clock rates. A GF-2 Pro's defualt clock is 200/400 MHz.

Good Luck,

Your processor is a big bottleneck. That's why it doesn't seem to be running as fast as it should. With a 1ghz processor you should be able to get something like 7000~8000 3Dmarks.

Pins on 4 sides means DDR, and 2 sides means SDR (pretty sure about that)
My MX has pins on 2 sides. my GTS has pins on 4 sides

I think I should be getting more then 5000 marks. Other systems with similar setups are getting a lot better then myself at http://www.madonion.com

Part of your potential bottleneck could be your Abit VT6X4 motherboard, especially if you are not using the latest BIOS release. The early BIOS's for this board lacked certain advanced fetaures needed to sustain good memory throughput.

I would recommend downloading SiSoft Sandra, then compare your scores against other boards. Here is a link to the freeware version:

http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/util/san710.zip

If your memory scores look low as compared to other built-in Sandra scores, then I would recommend updating to the latest BIOS release.

To further aid in performance, have you installed DirectX 8.0 and the latest VIA chipset drivers?

Good Luck,
Robert Richmond

My memory throughput is pretty good. I'm already using the latest bios for my mobo with my memory interleaving at 4-way. I downloaded DET 6.35. I'll give them a run. Currently I'm using DET 7.14 or 7.19 I don't remember which.

Which OS u using? 2k's 3DMarks are usally much lower than 9x's

I'm using WIN98 SE. I tried the DET 6.35 drivers and my score is now 5126. It made a big difference.
