Hey guys! I recently bought a 128MB PC100 stick to put alongside my 32MB PC100 on a PCChips 598lmr board. The board is fully integrated but I'm using a Voodoo 3 instead of the integrated video. The thing is that when I had 32MB ram I ran Quake 3 Arena at 800*600 and the game was running very choppy and when I ran the timedemo it achieved 15.2fps.

Now, I upgraded, have more RAM, the game runs fluid now, but when I do the timedemo it still registers 15.2FPS. What's wrong?

I ran 3dMark and the Voodoo achieved a whooping 707 3dmarks hehehe.. what the heck??

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to install the latest drivers? (see my other post: http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/004048.html)

Do I have to reinstall Windows (I hope not)?

What do I need to do?
ANy suggestion is reeeaaally apreciated!

Well I would definately start with getting the latest drivers installed as they really helped with my v3000 and v3500 cards. Also I would put the 128 meg stick of memory in the 1st memory slot and then the smaller one behind it. As for why the time demo still registers the lower FPS I dont know

That's how I have the memory arranged! I took the time to run other benchmarks and boy... am I dissapointed!

I ran MDK2 and although the game seems to run fluidly, it still registers 20.34 fps. I really don't get it!

Ran Unreal and it stayed at 63 FPS. Not a change. The only thing is that the games run smoother and load faster nothing else...

I'm going to update my Voodoo drivers but I don't know which ones gives the best performance. Some people say 1.04 others say beta and others say 1.07. Should I try them all out? Or can you guys suggest the best set?

Thanks a bunch.

Is the ram detected at POST? What processor are you running? Have you tried pulling the 32 meg chip and only running the 128? Is your OS very cluttered (ie. tonnes of startup junk)?

type Ctrl-alt-delete and see how many programs are running. Something is definitely wrong there. My 3DMark score was 5200, and although it is a better machine, yours should not be nearly that low. My old machine with a Voodoo3 scores over 1700. Do you have your motherboard drivers installed correctly? If I were you I'd say the hell with it and reinstall windows.

System Specs:

AMD K6-2 500
128 PC100 Ram
Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
Integrated sound
etc.

Eli: The RAM it is detected at POST. I have tried using just the 128 module and it has the same numbers. I don't have a lot of programs in the startup. The only things activated are Norton CrashGuard, Pccilling antivirus, Rain and ICQ.

Undertow: There's definitely something wrong but I think is the weak *** m/b!

I won't mind anymore about the benchmarks because every game that I own runs smoothly now even if the FPS are not registered correctly.

Thanks guys...!

Even if you're happy with your system for now, I'd still dump Crashguard. It always causes more problems than it prevents, and is just wasting valuable resources.

Thanks for the tip Eli! These Norton progs do take a lot of resources!

OK.. reinstalled the latest Voodoo drivers (1.07 I think) and the system is running great. Quake registers the FPS correctly now, running at 42 FPS in 800*600! Cool..!!
