What can be wrong??

I fired my computer up a couple of days ago and the colour didn't look right. Just to make sure it wasn't my imagination, I opened up a few jpg images that I knew had clear pictures. The images I see now arn't crystal clear but slightly pixelated (not fussy or anything just not sharp). I checked the monitor res. O.K.
Swapped video card - same. Swapped monitors - same. Could it be motherboard? Please help.

you said you checked th monitor resolution, but did you check the color setting? are you at 256 color or 16bit. probably a dumb question, but i'm trying to help, and the most obvious questions are the ones you should ask first.

Colour is set at 256.
