Just got a creative Geforce2 MX. Not to disparage creative or anything but I'm guessing there are better drivers. Theirs seem to be based on Detonator 6.34. Any ideas?

I have been using 7.17 with DirectX 8.0 for all of my GeForce-based cards. However, most will find 5.45 provides the best performance for TNT-x cards

I use 7.17, as they seem to offer the best compatbility for DX applications. For the best DX and OGL performance, the slightly older 6.32 drivers commonly offer a marginal advantage.

Whatever driver you use, make sure to update to DX 8.0. I personally recieved no performance increase under WinME with DX 8, but I do notice a clear advantage regarding stability in D3D software.

Also, all of the nVidia reference drivers can be found Zoiah's site:

Zoiah has several industry contacts, thus he commonly posts nVidia's internal driver release updates. Often the files you find at this site were never intended to be released outside of nVidia or their corporate customers (Creative, Elsa, etc.).

He is also nice enough to archive all of the releases he has obtained (officially and otherwise) at his site, and certain situations may require the use of an older driver revision.
