I have two cd drives now, one DVD and one CDrw is it possible to connect both to the sound card by splicing a cable together so that i can hear audio cd's through both drives, not at same time, but just so it doesn't matter which drive i put the cd in.
I can't see there being a problem at the sound card end but i just don't want to ruin either cd drive.

Did you check on your sound card to see if it has 2 audio inputs? Mine did... I have my CD-ROM and my CD-RW playing through it.

I spliced a cable between my high speed cd reader and my low speed cd-rw, works just fine, you can even play 2 cds at a time, but It sounds toaly fu**ed.

Hi,
Does your DVD decoder or Video card have a cd input? I've seen a set up where the cdrom audio is going to the sound card and the dvdrom audio is going to the decoder/video card and from there to the aux input on the soundcard.

I think it would be ok. You are feeding a low level line input signal into your sound card. I am sure the built in tolerances of the components would more than handle the load of two devices playing at once, or at a time.
