Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : ahhh win2k has expired and now it reboots once every hour skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 02:44 PM hmm why ? chipbgt 03-21-2000, 02:46 PM what build do you have? skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 02:48 PM 2195 final build the wierd thing is that this is not the eval version this is the full version and i wont call MS so that they can charge me 25$ per question Mntsnow 03-21-2000, 02:52 PM Is it a "legal" version? OEM or Retail? Mntsnow chipbgt 03-21-2000, 02:54 PM Did you register it? This may be the first sign of the rumored "dont register me and I'll act crazy" mode of win2k. happyhamster 03-21-2000, 03:36 PM Hmmmm... No problems here with free retail win2k, never registered. What message do you get before it reboots? Also, IIRC M$ have free support for the first few months, so if this is legal copy, you may look up the phone number in the manual and demand some explanation from them. Amarok 03-21-2000, 03:40 PM MS has free support but you have to pay the LD charges for the 1st 90 days after registration of Legal MS software. If you cant find anything on the web give them a call. skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 03:49 PM hmm its not a "legal" cd hmm i get a message that says the evaluation copy in win2k has enden this computer will reboot after 1hour the only problem with this is that it reboots it still works after i reboot Mntsnow 03-21-2000, 03:50 PM Hmmmm.... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow psyklone 03-21-2000, 03:59 PM hmmmmmmm....... it sounds like you need to get that patch out there for ripped copies ... THE RETAIL VERSION. hmmmmmmm....... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 03:59 PM this is so wierd it says that all i have to do is to reinstall or upgrade my copy of win2k to a full retail version of it and that it will work if i do so Mntsnow 03-21-2000, 04:09 PM it sounds like you got ahold of a "evaluation copy" instead of the "real thing" The Evaluation automatically expires after a set amount of time. (kinda like shareware) You could continue to run your current copy (if you dont mind rebooting every hour) or you can buy and install the "real thing" and have it running all the time http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 04:10 PM wow me and psyklone posted at the same time his post was not there when i replyed wow jad1097 03-21-2000, 04:28 PM Yes it is an eval copy. It expires after 120 days. Something like this http://contact.microsoft.co.uk/windows2000/freetrial.asp , of course this is their UK site but they gave out copies for ecal purpose and you got one. One way around this would be to get a CD-KEY from someone, I guess. But then again that is not a legal method. [This message has been edited by jad1097 (edited 03-21-2000).] skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 05:44 PM hmm ive had this like for 10days wery wierd it will not help to use a new licence sine the expire data is on the cd skywalker[TSG] 03-21-2000, 05:52 PM me a senior boy now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif jad1097 03-21-2000, 06:05 PM Congrats. That is strange. I thought it may be worth a try. chipbgt 03-21-2000, 08:50 PM Let me Just add, hmmmmmmmm.... Im sure someone will come along and eventually (illegally of course) produce a crack that gets around this. But i suggest, if ya like it, buy it, if you dont mind rebooting, ignore it. heck with win98 your rebooting that much anyways! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Mr Twobit 03-21-2000, 09:07 PM Let's keep it 'legal'! What ever you do, don't go to ***DELETED URL*** Please, don't post crack sites. -socalgal [This message has been edited by socalgal (edited 03-22-2000).] bkehoe 03-22-2000, 11:05 AM I installed an evaluation version 3 days ago on an Athlon, and today it restarts every hour. Maybe it was something to do with me messing with the date to get H-Oda's Athlon L2 Ccache program working. Brendan Mntsnow 03-22-2000, 11:38 AM Yep....There is an EMBEDDED date in some of the eval copies that is set to "time-bomb" once a certain date has past. Thus if you were to do a "new" install of that copy of win2K today it will imediately start to do the 1 hour reboots (as you have gone past the date that is in the software) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif or in your instance http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Mntsnow ytay 03-22-2000, 01:21 PM why would you be surprised that a pirated copy would expire, the copies that ciculated on the net had a 120 day expiration from the date that copy was released, coded into the SETUPREG.HIV file, judging by this you have had this copy installed well before the official release. your only option is to format and set your bios clock two years ahead, i understand that will work, and by then you will be ready to install your pirated copy of whistler http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif skywalker[TSG] 03-22-2000, 02:01 PM i have another option that is to get the full version and upgrade my current one it is possible to upgrade if u have the eval copy Mntsnow 03-22-2000, 02:20 PM I just hope you will make us proud and get a "Legal" copy and you know what I mean http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow Sharpy 03-23-2000, 12:39 AM I Know you shouldn't laugh at others misfortune but....LMAO (sorry Skywalker) A friend of mine just had the same thing happen to him. After a hard day at work this really cheer'd me up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif SysOpt.com
