Hi there http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Peer-to-peer setup, one monitor on each box.
When I turn on the Sony monitor connected to the Cel500 box, my already-on Mitsubishi monitor connected to the P3 box does a little degauss-type stutter dance.
Is there harm being done here? If so, is there a way to stop this without disabling the LAN connection?
The boxes are about 5' apart, and the monitors are about 2' apart and there's wooden partitions between them on my comp desk.
Thanks a bunch http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

hehe, this is normal
having two monitors next to each other will cause this
and yeah, 2 feet is not really far
at school, in our CAD lab, when i turn on my monitor, it affects both monitors to my left and right (2-4 feet away).
at home, i have dual monitor setup, right next to each other (0ft apart), and it does that too.
and no, it shouldn't really damage or harm your monitor.
oh yeah, and this has nothing to do with your LAN connection. when the monitors turns on, it automatically degauses (if you have degause). So there is no way around this, not that i know of at least.

Yeah Socalgal, no harm being done. I have my monitors side by side all the time, it's fun to watch them degauss eachother.
Anyway, this is a normal procedure for the monitor, in fact, the monitor degausses itself when it is turned on! The magnetic feild created by this will slightly degauss the other monitors nearby, go to a LAN party and see for yourself when someone turns on their 19" monitor!

Thanks, Frozen L~ http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Yes, I'm aware of the self-degaussing when a monitor is first turned on, but wasn't quite sure about my main monitor being degaussed while turning on the *other monitor*.
Always glad to get a second opinion, though! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
