fasttrack 66 raid card question

I currently have a w2k system on a bp6 mobo. I have one hd and it is on the hpt controller. I am wanting to set it up in mirroring mode. Can I just install the raid card, put my hd on it, add another (identical) hd, and have it work? Or will it require a fresh install?

Well, 1st of all, I don't think you can just install the FastTrack card and connect the HD on it.
The next time you boot up, Win2k will not find the HD. You need to install the drivers for the FastTrack.

I am not sure on how to do it without re-installing everything... sorry...

I have not had a chance to play with W2k, but I am pretty that it offers the possibility to do soft RAID, like NT4... right ????

Thanks for the reply Stan. I think we should nickname you "Mr. Raid". Every time anyone asks a question relating to raid you have the answer. Are you sure you don't work for Promise? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

As far as reinstalling that is kind of what I thought and what I was afraid of. Software raid has always stumped me. I have a nt 4 workstation box and can't find anything about it. Is it included in the NT workstation or only in the NT server? I just tried to find it in w2k pro and found nothing as well.

After you have installed the RAID card, put in identical drives, set the Array to the mirror mode, and it will ask you if you want to dupe one of them. This may work...Good Luck
