the MAXX can edge the MX on certain benchmarks, but overall, the MX is a better pick, drivers, etc.

get a cheap MX instead

thanks, i was leaning towards the geforce2 mx anyway. has anyone had much overclocking success with the 3d prophet2 mx card? i have an extra heatsink/fan i will put on it.

Overclocking the memory would most likely give an enormous speed boost on that puppy, dont know the sucess levels though.

I have an MX and love it.

It's a VisionTek 32MB card with no heatsinks or fans. (!)

I left the core alone- but overclocked the memory from 166 to 200Mhz. No problems whatsoever.

Performance- in 3DMark2000 I got a 10% increase in 1024x768x16-bit and a 30% increase in 1024x768x32-bit. Keep in mind though, that the original tests were run with the 5.33 drivers and the o/c tests were run with the Det3's. The new drivers came out right when I tested the overclocking.

The Demo mode was noticeably faster in 32-bit mode even with FSAA on. The nVidia Alien Demo runs fluidly smooth at 1024x768x32.

I recommend the card.

I say go for the GeForce 2 MX card, it's better value and overclocks better. But the MAXX has an advantage when it comes to higher resolutions and higher detailed textures.
