there are a lot of these, like monitoring system/printer programs and startups that are not in the startup directory. I forgot what program you run to get into the menu that you can uncheck the loading of these programs. Thanks

David if you have Windows98 it is pretty easy-type-MSCONFIG in your run command-that brings up the configuration utility-click on the startup tab and you can add or delete programs that load with windows. You can also access it from start-programs-accessories-system tools-system information-pull down the tools menu and choose configuration utility. Hope this helps http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

That's the one! Thanks alot, but I will probably ask the question again next month after I reformat my disk (like a major car tuneup).

P.S. How do you guys do those different smilies?

The smile is just a colon followed by a bracket, without a space between the characters. There are different variants made by using other brackets, the semi-colon, etc. Have fun.
