My old PC(P200)ran my 2-year-old games great with my V2(back when 3dfx was king ). Now I have a new PC ( PII 650Mhz )with a Gforce DDR. I am wondering: Will I have any video problems if I install the Voodoo 2 in my new PC, along with the DDR? Anyone using a similar setup?

Sure ya can put it aside the gforce, but why would ya wanna???

It would slow down if you were to play games on yer V2 instead of the gforce.

The gforce is far superior to the Voodoo 2, with dozens more features.

But it should work fine though.

Like I said, if you can spare the slot, dual Voodoo2's will provide good performance.

You'll have NO problems with the Voodoo 2--it was designed as a 3D-only board and will work with any existing card.

I disagree with Pim about the advantage of keeping a V2. Most games will allow you to choose which card to use for 3D acceleration, so you'll be able to pick between the V2 and the GeForce at any time. If for some reason, a particular game doesn't offer you the choice, there are several freeware utilities which will enable it.

There are still some games that just prefer a 3DFX based card. Ultima Ascension, Unreal Tournament, and Deus Ex are just a few. Furthermore, older games like Wing Commander Prophecy just plain look and run smoother in Glide.

If you aren't satisfied with the framerate of the V2 and can spare the cash and the slot, pick up a 2nd V2 and run them in SLI. That'll give you near Voodoo3 performance and the V3 kicked **** in 16-bit.

Good luck!

Im almost certain that a Geforce DDR will beat a V2 in UT, just out of brute strength of the Geforce.
Deus Ex? Beats me since Geforce performance is much much worse than it is under UT. The V2 would be much happier in the P200 (if its still intact), or maybe happier as $20 bucks in your wallet.

Thank you guys. Your advice/comments are greatly appreciated. I am planning to use my V2 on the older games where video RAM was not as crucial as well as they were designed with 3dfx in mind. I agree, GForce does kick **** on newer games. Thanks for keeping me from trashing my new PC. It has been a battle trying to get all the hardware/driver issues worked out.
Muchas, muchas gracias. :-)

Don't rip so bad on the old Voodoo2!

I kept my old 8MB guy which is now sitting with my GeForce MX. (A few slots down and a soundcard between though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)

I kept it for the older games that were 3dfx-only, like Grand Theft Auto and the like that have no Direct3D support, only glide. The vast majority of my games use my great MX though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif.

P.S. No problems for me- only thing was I needed to go away from my Diamond Drivers which were semi-old to newer ones because of a Voodoo2-Athlon compatibility. It works great now though!
