Just got a GeForce2 board yesterday - a Guillemot ProphetII GTS 64MB DDR card. Anyway, I flashed the thing's BIOS, and now, the computer won't start right. After being off for a while, powering on results in 4 beeps - a sign that no video card was detected. However, if I press the reset button once the computer's done beeping, it boots normally.
What happened? The BIOS flashing program reported no problems at any point; the card works fine once it's booted, but why won't the computer boot right?
Specs:
Asus P5A motherboard
K6-3 400MHz
256MB RAM

Well, thanks anyway; but the strange thing is, it worked perfectly before the BIOS update. Only now does it give the boot-up problem. This stinks too - I'd get a new mobo and processor, but I'm starting college soon, and I'm also getting a car. I need more money.
Donations of a good VIA KT133 motherboard, and an Athlon 1GHz processor can be sent to the following address... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Here's a post that I put up earlier that describes a similar problem. It is, however, on Abit boards. Maybe the problem you have follows the same lines though.
Just throwing out anything that might seem helpful.

In the BIOS, do you have First video set on the AGP slot and not a PCI slot?
The exact option may vary from board to board, but the choices for that option are AGP or PCI. Its usually called 'Init video first' or something along that line.

If it was working perfectly before you flashed the BIOS, then why did you even attempt to flash it? To many people see that there is an update for a BIOS on their MOBO or cards and they immediately grab it and update it thinking that it will glow and music will start to play (dramatic heh)
Not trying to point at you or flame you Jeff. I am only stating that updates are made to correct or patch particular problems and conflicts. If you had a problem or conflict then yes! Flash that bad boy. But if it works fine, leave it alone!

Well, not quite everything was working perfectly - I was having trouble with my TV Tuner card. At first, it wouldn't display anything at all, but then I found that Windows so intelligently assigned it a conflicting memory range. Solved that, and it displayed TV like it should. However, it was very prone to crashing, and any time I tried to do a video capture on it, it crashed, requiring a reboot. After the flash, there's no such problem.
And the Init video first is set to AGP. But that probably wouldn't have any effect anyway - from a cold bootup, it doesn't even get a chance to POST, so the BIOS settings probably wouldn't have much effect at that stage.
